Rover 75 Diesel specialists France
Does anyone know of any Rover 75 diesel specialists in Normandie France.
Here on holiday and the old girl broke down, engine just stopped and would not start. Thankfully I have European breakdown insurance but that is turning into a bit of a nightmare. There seems to be a lack of understanding of how (our) cars work. I think it may be either the cam or crankshaft sensors and I have told the breakdown company that but they seem to think it's a fuel issue - I don't believe it is. They changed the in tank fuel pump but the issue continues. It did start for a while but then conked out. I believe that when these sensors cool down there is the possibility of the engine starting. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. |
with the igniton on is the underbonnet pump working it will run for about 40 seconds then stop, Does the oil pressure warning light work on the dash? you could try checking the connections under the underbonnet fusebox and im sure will have checked the plenum is not full of water

Send colvert a pm, he’s over in France and may be able to advise.

Under bonnet pump runs, Oil light works, checked wiring, plenums clear.
Thanks for the reply Sent Colvert a pm Thanks |
TOAF and a modified KKL 409 cable seems the obvious way forward.
Why not let the car tell you what the problem is, if it can ? |
Does it being a BMW engine not help? Must be some BMW knowledge in France.

Where in Normandy are you? |
If the engine cut out then that won't be due to the cam sensor, as the ECM only references the cam sensor signal when starting the engine, and then ignores it until the next start sequence.

Thanks for all the assistance.
We are in Jersey at the moment and our car is in France. The garage, the insurance company sent it to, "thought" it was the under bonnet pump. This turned out to be false when it broke down with the same symptoms 32km down the road. Yet another recovery. Now they "think" it is the in-tank pump. I have asked them to give me a price (should hear today 21st March) but balancing it on the price they charged for the under bonnet pump replacement, it will be extortionate. It seems to be a guessing game with the garage even though I advised them of things to look at and test. So my next option is to have the car repatriated back to England and taken to my local Rover specialist. I was based near Saint Hilaire de Harcouet in France, but left yesterday with a hire car which will need to be returned at some point. We were based in Pontivy for two weeks, that's when the car was working ok. Anyway, I will wait for the phone call today and let you all know the outcome. May have to let the Rover go, shame really as it has only 85000 miles on it and is in good condition. Thanks again for the replies. So I am waiting for a phone call |
