Hi Line TV
It’s nine years or more since the analogue signal got turned off so I was thinking it’s about time to reactivate and go digital. The only problem is that I could do with advice from those who have trod the same road, hopefully there are now some solutions that won’t cost the earth. All advice appreciated. I’m not a TV addict but it would be good to get the car back to original spec. Thank you

The simplest option if you already have TV is to fit a BMW hybrid tuner in place of your current one, I even got away with using the same aerial but no options are cheap.

I fitted something similar to this many years ago, still going strong.
As well as fitting this you have to either: 1. connect to the back of the TV unit in the boot or 2. purchase a purpose made lead for the 75. last time i looked the 75 was different to the BMW but now apparently not Note Mono only. Or an upgraded lead here Making your own lead is not difficult, I have the pin in numbers somewhere ( or they will be on here) and its simply a pair of leads (A/V) into the tv unit. |

If you want plug and play then you should go the bmw digital receiver unit :) |
Yes it's the E38 E39 E46 E53 E83 or Range Rover I-bus version, swap the unit in the boot and that's it, all the controls work as standard. Some people have needed to fit an amplified aerial but I didn't, guess it depends on the condition of your original aerial and the signal strength in your area. Search ebay for BMW E46 hybrid tuner. Best with a widescreen head unit, again the E46 unit is a straight swap electrically but you have to cut the top two mounting lugs off the unit to get it in the console.
Stocktake's solution is the cheapest I've seen and not as complicated as it seems. |
Thank you both for very useful information. Two solutions from Stocktake and Geoff30. Its now a matter of make your choice and pay your money. Thanks again to both of you
