Question about Lowline Navigation.
 

A fellow Australian 75 owner is isolated a good distance away in the country.
I have little knowledge about the Lowline system, and he, a new 75 owner, possibly less.

The 75 / ZT cars exported to Australia were fitted with satellite navigation systems that used the VDOdayton / Carin Systems.

When attempting to update to a 2019 disc, the system instructed him to firstly update his cars firmware.
Not having much luck in locating any online information for the firmware.

Can anyone advise us whether another navigation system (for use in Australia) , say google is compatible with our cars. If so, I feel that it may be the easier solution for him.
I hope someone can advise us.

The OEM highline and lowline systems cannot be software updated, they are software locked unlike their BMW counterparts.

Also you need to make sure your friend uses a CD mapping disc, not a DVD disc as it only reads CDs.

I would start by looking on eBay or similar for a CD based BMW mapping disc perhaps from a few years earlier if they are only now producing the DVD versions. That at least would get the system up and running.

I found this one on a quick search, which might perhaps fit the bill on paper at least, but until you actually try it in the car..... :shrug:

I shall pass your remarks onto him and see what we can do.
I presume the recorded data must be very large as I think my son told me some time ago that provided the DVD data is under 700MB it may be possible to transfer the details.

On a different note, you may be surprised what we encounter in the antipodes.
Latest plea: A non-club member has a Mk 2 75 that has been parked on the nature strip (grassed area between the footpath and road) - for the past three years. Why? Because he couldn't find the car keys. The battery will be dead flat and as Brian kindly reminded me, the Mk 2 cars do not have a keyhole in the boot. Hope I don't make a fool of myself when trying to read the key barrel.
