Boating after lockdown

March 29th is when we can finally get to visit our boat again after the lockdown easing of restrictions.
It will be only a day visit as overnight stays away from home will resume from April 12th (fingers crossed).

It was last December the last time we were able to visit before the restrictions were put in place.
I have a feeling we going to be rather busy cleaning her and making sure all is okay with the engines etc.

I think it will be towards the end of April when all is Ship Shape and Bristol Fashion when we can slip our moorings at the marina and get Lady Emma out on the rivers and broads again.

Was planning on a few salty adventures out to sea with her but wanted her out of the water to get new anti foul, anodes, shaft glands repacked and engines serviced before venturing out of the relative safety of inland waters.
This was going to be done around this time in readiness for the boating season but lockdown prevented this work from being carried out.
Probably means getting it done towards the end of the season, so it will probably be next year before we get any salty side fun on board!

I'll keep this thread going with any boating activity as it happens:}

I may bring our caravan home and give it a clean and check over in the Easter holiday. It was last drone in the summer last year but obviously it wasn’t used,not sure if we will go away this year as the wife and daughter only like holiday parks where this evening entertainment and activities to do daytime. I don’t mind them but you pay a fortune just for electricity and water,we don’t do a lot of daytime activities except maybe the pool and occasionally crazy golf but this year with foreign travel still being banned the parks are going to be rammed. I don’t fancy the idea as you don’t know how many people have been vaccinated or where they have been, too risky for my liking. Whereas me and the lad are quite happy with a caravan site that has showers and is near a beach,or in the countryside where we can go walking or cycling.

Well, all being well, we will be taking Chelsea Bridge out for a week starting April 16th. 2nd time for us using Bridgecraft, Acle which I know is close to where you keep your boat.

If we manage this holiday it will be 3rd time lucky as we had to postpone it last year first because our cat was ill and then again because of Covid. Really looking forward to getting afloat again.

Bridgecraft is just round the corner from Acle Marina where we are.
Also right next door to the Acle Bridge Inn which is my local and second home when up in Norfolk :}

I’ll probably be up at Lady Emma at some point whilst you’re on your holiday so maybe we might get to say hello :}

Hi Jeff

Depending on the weather we will probably sample the delights of the Bridge Inn garden during our visit. We always have at least one meal there in normal times. Is it possible to walk from the pub to where you are moored?

It is indeed. About 15 minutes walk, either along the river front or along the footpath running by the road :}

Thanks for that, we will see about a walk and look for Lady Emma - let me know if you decide to visit while we are there and if things work out we may get to say hello either there or at the Bridge Inn.

Hi all,

A little update from my first visit back to the boat on Tuesday.....

Mostly good news thankfully.

Boat was still floating........always good news that:D

No water in the bilges, boat free from damp, tube heaters and dehumidifier having done their jobs well.

Seakcocks opened, raw water strainers cleaned and both engines fired into life at the first time of asking.

Left them running to get up to temperature and oil pressures etc all good.

Flushed the fresh water system through. Added sterilisers to the tank and refilled.

Couple of little niggles to sort, broken windscreen wiper and Broads toll plate needing replacing and a good amount of cleaning to do.

No cleaning done Tuesday though........Because :eek:

Back up again at the weekend. Not sure I'll get much done as I'll be working in Norfolk over the weekend and Monday!

I'll update any changes:}

The last twice we have been in there, we have not been happy. The first time, we were charged for drinks that we didn't have (hit the table number key in the wrong order so charged for the table number of drinks - around £40 too much!). Thought it was a big joke when I rang about it and, Yes, I was polite! The last time we went there, we were just completely ignored, waiting to be seated for about fifteen minutes with plenty of empty tables, so we left and haven't been back since!:shrug:
Hope things go better for you.

Sorry to hear of your experience Mike,

The Bridge Inn is pretty much my local (well, it was before lockdown!) and I'm usually there once a week.

The staff are usually very attentive to customers so something obviously wasn't right on those occasions.

I will be there on the 12th for their reopening. The Landlords, Phil & Vanessa are good friends so I will have a gentle (socially distanced) mention of this.

Losing good customers when things are as hard as they are is not what they would want. I know they pride themselves on looking after their customers, be they local or visitors to the Broads.

Hopefully, when things improve, we will be organising a get together there again. Would be nice to see you and your faith in the Bridge restored :}

It was 100% a staffing problem. They seemed to just not care. On the occasion that we were left standing to be seated, it wasn't busy and we were told "Shan't keep you long" and the same person just kept running around like a headless chicken. There were empty tables that were clear, so we could have been at least offered a seat! (All pre-covid by the way).:shrug:

Looking a lot better than it was......Still needs to be polished though. Job for next time as its too cold today and due to rain shortly.

Hi Jeff - no problem.

We had a good week, the weather was good to us and the sun shone every day. It was very cold at night and a bit too cold for us to eat out unfortunately so did not get to the Bridge Inn or to see Lady Emma. She is looking good after pressure washing but I am intrigued to know how you polish the hull. Do you have to do that from a dinghy or is it a case of bringing to the bank for each section?

What you can't see in that photo is the walkway down the starboard side.
I do one side then turn the boat round to do the other ;)

Glad you had a good time, hopefully next time it will be a tad warmer for you and we shall get to meet up:}

coolcat 8th May 2021 18:37

Just to add.....She will be coming out later this year (fingers crossed) as I will be getting her anti fouled, new anodes and compound polished.
I compound polished the topsides last season myself but will get the boatyard to do the whole superstructure whilst she is on the hard.

Depending on finances I may also get new boot stripes and decals done as well:}
