Inspection - what to look out for

Hi all

I've found what looks like a clean, well maintained, low mileage 75 diesel. The seller has just had it MOT-ed. I've arranged an inspection for Tuesday next week. What should I look out for? Are there any red flags that are important in deciding whether to walk away? Thanks very much.

A "proper" MOT should pick up the common rust areas (sill ends, rear suspension units) and any play in steering and suspension units and links. Check for excess smoke, signs of any leaks, noisy bearings, rattles, uneven tyre wear, polluted oil or coolant. You can usually "buy the seller". Check past MOT history for recurring faults , HPI check for accident damage and outstanding finance etc. All the usual stuff really!;)

Check the operation of the clutch if its a manual. Hold the clutch down while in gear for around 60 seconds to see if there is any drag coming from the clutch when pushed right down. If there is walk away as it probably needs a new slave cylinder. Expensive job. Not the cylinder, but the fitting.
