What car to replace the 75
 

So guys, ive had my 75 now for nearly 6 years, been a great car. Just wondering what your planning on buying to replace your 75s with when the time comes?


I dont think i'll be putting mine through another MOT as it will need quite a bit of work doing (both front bearings, exhaust, roll bar bushes, rear disks and pads) so will be looking to buy something else in the summer.


The modern cars ive been reading up on (Mondeo, Insignia, Focus, Astra, Citroen DS4) all seem to be plagued with problems

All modern cars seem plagued with problems, mostly electrics, which are not only difficult to trace but very expensive to fix as well. Also, they have no character. I have no idea with what I shall replace mine with when the time comes.

Your 'to do' list doesn't seem that bad to me! Get it fixed and xarry on enjoying it.

If you replace it with something else, what the chances of that having issues?

Stay away from modern diesels with DPF's :eek::eek::eek:

Depends what car and how you drive it ;)
I have 2 Volvo S60 MK1 facelifts with DPF's and they've less soot in them than when I got them and have never gone through a regen cycle.

If all you do is potter around town on short journeys then any diesel with a DPF will clog up, petrols in those circumstances are a better solution.

Must say the Volvo S60's have both been extremely reliable, they're better equipped than a Connie SE, more comfortable, more economic despite being 2.4l ,all parts are available and reasonably priced ;)

Pretty much anything newer than an 10 plate is a headache once they get older.

I had a good look at other cars a couple years ago when I was no longer going to use the typhoon as a daily. Plenty of nice cars out there but common faults and the cost of repairs on newer cars just put me off. So bought redfive.

But if I had to move onto something else I'd probably go for a Jag XF or xj350.

I was asked this question by the wife only last week, my answer was to find the low mileage version of what I have even if it was top dollar.

As has been said a lot of modern stuff is a nightmare, I could write a couple of sheets of A4 with the crazy problems that modern stuff has. A typical example is a friend has a 4 year old Peugeot with a rattly cam, the system advances and retards the cam timing. This a common problem and the dealer wants £1800 to fix it with the updated part, the parts are about £400 and the special tools to do the job are about £500. I am unlikely to ever do the job again so I wont be buying the tool and he is reluctant obviously. If he leaves it the problem will get to the point where it brings on the engine management light and then it will fail the MOT.

When the time comes - which hopefully won’t be for a few years yet - it’s going to have to be an electric!

Might be some nicer more affordable models about by then.

Mobility scooter will do me fine.
