ABS Light on no Speedo

I keep getting an intermittent fault. The ABS warning comes on and the speedo stops working. If I turn off and back on all returns to normal. Is this down to the ABS sensor. Is it expensive/easy to fix?

It sounds like the ABS sensor, often, the wire comes unclipped fom its horseshoe type retainer on the strut, rubs against the wheel inner, exposes the wire and causes the fault, so might be worth checking first. If the ABS sensor unwinds out of the hub ok then it is an easy fix. I've used the el-cheapo ABS sensors off ebay and they seem ok, one has been in for over 2 1/2 years now. Try and get some penetrating fluid into it prior to any attempt of removal. Its been in that hole a long time.

If the wire is chafed then a bodge is to repair it using a terminal block or similar.

Just to add, (if you didn't already know) the speedo fault relates to the drivers side front sensor.

I just had this with mine. My fuel gauge was also affected. It threw the code for the front O/S bearing on the T4 but I had to have the sensor as well in the end to cure it. Still not that drastic a job, though, and I was relieved to get my dash back working and no light on!

Might be worth checking the reluctor ring for rust or crud stuck to it.

Just as a precaution check the multiplug on the ABS unit under the battery. Look for signs of damp it will look like traces of green fungus strings on the plug side or grungy stuff in the socket!
