Grass verge and hedge cutting.

None of the grass verges or hedges have been cut by the council in Derby or anywhere else I have travelled in the county. I don't recall them having been cut at all this year and in some cases the verges are 3-4 feet tall. This can be extremely dangerous when it hides approaching traffic. This despite maximum council tax rise!

Is this the situation in other parts of the country where you are?

Yes we have a similar situation. The council will only cut the grass on level parts. Outside my front door there is a triangular piece of grass which has a steep bank. And within this area there is a large tree. The council won’t cut the grass as it’s not safe to do so because of the steepness of the bank. Nor will they trim the tree.

I have an allocated parking space under that tree but I won’t park either of the cars because of the sap, seeds and leaves. We have been fighting to get the tree trimmed. As for the grass both my neighbour and I cut it. She does the flat sections and I do the steep section.

We are now waiting on Cornwall Council to let us know who owns the land. There is talk that it might be orphan land. If that’s the case then we will be cutting the tree down with professional tree fellers.

The costs of going green!

In my road there are grass verges from top to bottom on both sides. It’s about a quarter of a mile long. It’s mown by the council twice a year, May and September. So, most of us diy it once a month.

That’s fair enough but there is another ‘thing’. About two dozen homes have large vans and the in’s and out’s are apparently extremely difficult for entry and exit. It seems they cannot be navigated without making the round corners, already 9” deep, even deeper. You’d think bouncing once or twice would be enough to realise you were doing it wrong... So, the trough gets deeper... Still, at least they are deep enough to remove the grass roots.

The councils will have to get sheep in to keep the grass down by the sound of things  https://www.nytimespost.com/petrol-l...-uk-no-excuse/

None of them have been cut throughout Derbyhire Bob, flat or othrwise.

One road I regularly use which leads up to a large island has a grassed central reservation. The grass is so high you cannot see over it as you approach the island to check what's coming around the island, you have to edge out slightly.I'm amazed there has not been complaints to the council.Apart from the safety issues it looks an eyesore.
