Aldi battery charger.

I have just bought a battery charger from Aldi for £12.99. Auto XS with micro processor control.
Anybody know if it is suitable for AGM batteries?
Cheers.

Unless the instructions specifically state that it is, the answer would be no. AGM batteries require a somewhat different charging regime to standard lead-acid batteries.

I have not opened the sealed pack until I know it's suitable. It states that it is suitable for all car batteries and that it's micro processor controlled.
I have been advised that an AGM battery needs such a charger.
I was hoping someone owns one of these chargers and had read the instructions.

I assume that you have the MD18559, as this is the one currently available for £12.99.
If so the manual is available here

If this is the one, page 9 states this below:

"Proper use

This appliance is a primary-side switched charging appliance
with pulse trickle charging. It is suitable for charging and trickle-
charging the following rechargeable 6 V or 12 V lead batteries
containing an electrolyte solution or gel as well as AGM batteries,
which are used in motor vehicles:"

Yes, that's the correct model.
Many, many thanks for your assistance.
I can open the packet now.

No problem Melvyn.

I bought a cordless tyre compressor for Aldi recently and am pleased with it.
With the prices and the warrantee they offer, I can't see how you can too far wrong. :}

OK, but absorbent glass mat batteries want to be charged slowly. Overcharging can kill these batteries.
Best to use a charger that is okay for them. ;)

It is, but the term "lead acid battery" was in use for many tens of years before AGM was invented. So if you see "lead acid" mentioned in an application, it may or may not include AGM.

Would you recommend that someone uses their 1970's 8A simple "Lead Acid Battery Charger" on an "Lead acid AGM battery"?

I would hope not! ;)
