New penalties for using a hand held phone whilst driving

2017 the penalties for using a hand held phone to call or text are set to double to 6 points and a £200 fine. Any thoughts?

I happen to agree that the penalties should be raised, it's one of the most dangerous things people can do while they are behind the wheel and it does my head in seeing it day in day out.

You're right! it is an epidemic. I was at Bolton Hospital with Mam the other day having her pacemaker check up in the Cardiology dept, There are signs all around the waiting room telling people to switch off mobile phones as they interfere with sensitive equipment.

with the exception of a few older people the entire waiting room which was packed were on them:shrug: mobile phone users seem to be a law unto themselves.

Should be £1000 fine, 12 points (last chance before a ban), and the phone instantly confiscated and destroyed.

I see them everyday on my way to work and on my way home  so i d say £1000 fine and a years ban! No exceptions

Time to think about hands free in the car peeps..........we can help with that ;):D:getmecoat:

Seriously though, it's a good thing that this is being clamped down on......it's being openly abused by just about every other motorist it would seem and too many lives are being destroyed as a consequence !

They are not even slightly bothered when confronted .

If more people had a word or pointed at them they would soon get the message (no pun intended).

I have hands free but still do not use it. Anyone phones me I find somewhere safe to park, engine off and keys out of the ignition before returning the call.

I have seen them texting, playing games and taking photo's.

When caught they should be banned, fined and their insurance company notified so that their premium can be raised. How on earth did we manage back in our youth?

Biggest problem is Police are so thin on the ground now, people know they are unlikely to be pulled.

Les4048 17th September 2016 11:31

Instant ban is the only way to fix it. Government are speaking about a media campaign to educate drivers and in my opinion they'll be wasting good money because if people don't know by now they never will
