Sill repair panels

Are repair sections available for the sills or is it a fabrication job?

SD1too 29th September 2017 17:26

It's a fabrication job Alex, unless you want to buy a third of the side of the car! :o

I've just had my NSR repaired which included making a new support bracket. It's an expensive job, but as it's just about the only bodywork weakness on the car it's worth it in my view.

The easiest way is to cut a good piece of sill from a donor car.

Athorpe 29th September 2017 22:38

Haha wonder of anyone has a good one they will let me chop out :D

Most of the rust is out now, front jacking points seem ok so just the back ones, and inner and outer sills to do ... going to be a long weekend then !

A uprising what the underseal hid, looked perect other than a tiny rust stain and now I'm missing abut a foot of sill either side

Alex; here is what remained of my NS lift support bracket:

So I'm not sure that you could rely upon a donor car to offer anything useful. :o

And the reconstruction from sheet metal:

The chickens have come home to roost on that job

I certainly wouldn't rely on that to jack up the car, and the rust is peeking through the primer on the inner sill :getmecoat:

Neither would I. It's not an official jacking point. :duh:

So the jacking pad doesn't fit into that particular section of sill then  :getmecoat:

Impressive repair that,

My jacking points are OK thankfully, (since the cars been jacked up on the for a few weeks while I did other things!). But my sills were worse than those

Rear ones have been repairer today, need a but of tidying up and painting but they are solid again ... I'll see if I can upload any pics

Front ones to do tomorrow :)

There are still plenty of good sills left on scrap cars, it's hit and miss though as you can't say later cars will be ok and early Ines rusty, I have seen good and bad in both mk1 & mk2
