Insurance - is this a new record on the forum?
 

I've just renewed the insurance for my Omega with the same company as last year (Lloyds bank).

Last year's cost - £103.22

This year's renewal price - £93.98

The insurance is for me and the mrs to drive, fully comprehensive and 6k miles PA.

The car is a 2.5 V6 170BHP petrol estate coming up to 22 years of age. It has just passed the MOT which will take it to 20 September 2022 at 23 years old.

Just be thankful that you don't live in an inner city postcode!;)

lovely cars. i have had 2. both in metalic dark red. both estates both auto and both extremely fast and comfortable. mine were 4 cyl gls versions and were very quick. i liked the "snug" fit next to the drivers leg and console. have not seen one around for ages now . ... ;)

Yes I agree, I had a 2.5 Manual Estate. Was a very capable car, amazingly economical and as you say quick. If I remember correctly a Timing belt was an expensive job that I had to get done.

My local dealer had a 3.0 Manual Estate Elite for sale, I went to take it for a test drive but the battery was flat, I expect that would have been special.

Yes - you do not see them very often these days. Production ended in 2002.

Ours is an auto and we've owned it for 17 years. The timing belt kit was last replaced for me about 6 years ago by a member of the Omegaownersclub who is a real expert. He worked like the clappers and completed it in 2 hours flat. I supplied the kit and he charged me £80!

Ours is now on just over 147k miles, runs beautifully and the suspension is all original other than the front and rear track control rods.

If you ignore fuell costs, it has been our cheapest car per mile over its lifetime!

I had the saloon, 3 litre Elite, what a projectile. After prodding the sport button and flooring it I knew why the police had them!

Ours is named Tina as in Tina Turner - refined, well built and a sound to kill for! :}

The cheapest I have paid to insure a car so far is £60 for a 1979 Ford Capri with an agreed insurance value of 8k, with Mrs Dallas and myself fully comprehensive for 12 months.

That's £60 to drive a car legally on the road with only fuel to pay, the car is 42 years young and tax/mot exempt.

dont know if the v6 was the same but the only problem which effected both engines on the two i had, was that the tickover stepper motor would not operate properly and used to cut out . it usually happened whilst half way around an island. pretty scary !! almost impossible to turn the wheel. usually a removal of the worm on the inlet and a good soak overnight cured it, if not a new stepper motor. they were designed to save petrol and close off the fuel supply on over run of the engine but dangerous if they did not function correctly. other than that ... lovely car indeed. ... ;)
