Neither remote nor key open the doors?!
Hello all...
I'm currently locked out of our ZT as the remote will not open the doors and the key will not turn in the lock! Is this not a bit bizarre?! No idea yet what the problem is but it's obviously quite urgent. Any ideas what the problem is and how to get into the car? Many thanks. |
Changed the fob battery... no cigar :(

Sometimes it's the simple things ;)
EDIT - Ahh, just got it, I thought you had solved the problem. :o |
At the risk of asking the silly question, you haven't got a key from a different car have you?
The remote and the mechanical lock are independent, so the fault you describe would only really happen if the mechanism had failed and the remote stuff had also failed, unlikely to happen at the same time. Chris |
Does the key in the lock actually turn? If not, spray WD40 into the lock with the straw attachment and gently try turning from side to side. It's mechanical, so should work if free. If you are getting nothing from the fob ( ie no lights flashing or clicking in door) your car battery may be totally discharged.
Note to self :- Use the mechanical lock from time to time to make sure that it is free!!!!!! |
Well, before I called a locksmith I gave it another go, turning the key and bumping the door whilst turning the key. After applying some silicone grease to the lock. It opened!
I can't explain how this affects the remote locking though?! Pressing the button you couldn't see or hear anything trying to move. Maybe if it was somehow mechanically locked solid it wouldn't move? For the record the battery is fine and all keys and locks are the same as they were yesterday! None have ever been changed, and the car is used daily. I'll keep an eye on it! Thanks all. |
There is a cable that runs from the lock barrel to the locking assembly and if this frays it will start playing up and finally fail.
You have to strip the lock out to get to it, but it isn't that difficult a job. Mine failed last year - luckily I had a good spare from the scrapper. :} |
