New project - probably my biggest challenge yet.
Like I needed another project... but anyway, took delivery of this today, it has been on my radar for a while as one that needs saving. How right I was!
The owner didn’t have it for long and as reported on here, it has been through a few owners recently. Lots and lots and lots of work required to get it back to a good state. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ce2b8f8688.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1b555d7484.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7a4df1c892.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d3f80867cb.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5e3fee6ea4.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d3563cecaa.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6b0f23f5c6.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...db90f0d8da.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7f3d6f8d6a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6b4966c1da.jpg |
Well at least you had the sense to get an oil burner rather than a :getmecoat:1.8
|
Have fun mate, I quite like the colour too, the thing I like about project cars is that when you put something back together and then look at what you have done it makes you feel happy again knowing it’s been done properly, also with a project car your not normally up against a time restraint
Will look forward to seeing it come along Nice one mate  Mick |
Good save matey plenty of time to sort it out , at least its in good hands now :}
|
I agree, nice colour. :}
Good luck with the repairs. |
Is it Lagoon Andy?

Trikey you were after this for a while I know the front seat was a project you just couldn’t turn down! |

The near side rear door and offside rear quarter will take a little more than polishing Pete! |
Lovely colour.
If anyone can do it - you can. Looking forward to the hearing how she makes her way back onto the road. Good Luck. Andy. |

what is the inside of the car like? Looking at the car I did wonder why you were keen to take it on, is no6 the key? macafee2 |

My own lagoon is poorly at the moment. Makes a horrendous knocking noise on startup that sounds like main bearings . Stops after around 60 seconds or so and from them on sounds as sweet as a nut. It was supposed to be in with Lates & Pete today but that had to cancelled as Pete has had an accident and is currently on crutches. No doubt it will get sorted in due course. Frustrating though (but worse for poor old Pete). Looking forward to seeing updates on No.6 :}. Cliff |

She’s still on the road Andy!! I’ve had a quick look underneath and the sills, rear arms and tank straps look in very good condition. |

The interior has seen better days! The drivers seat has a huge burn in the backrest of all places? And that ‘stain’ on the seat base, I shall see how the rest of it looks when I have donned my hazmat suit. |

Well I have made a start, the engine bay has had a quick clean, upon checking the plenum I found a small compost heap, off with the scuttle panel and borrow the hoover to ensure all is clean and dry!
The air, pollen and (lack of) pcv filter have been changed as well. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...60258bf7b0.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c51d165fa4.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f9bcad9d20.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...44277f3dc0.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e2b5158919.jpg |
I saw Debs earlier, she said you'd got this and another four-legged project!
|
Amazing what difference a little cleaning makes. She looks better already :}
Cliff |
What did you use to get the engine bay looking so nice and clean?
|
Done a great job on the engine bay.
I noticed a silver one in west runton looking quite sad do you want me to try and enquire if its available for spares? |
Nice one Andy you got one hell of a project.
Look forward too seeing the finished result. :D |

Always worth a look 🤣 |

New project - probably my biggest challenge yet.

I have too many Pete, but I had to save this one or it wouldn’t have lasted past the next mot. |
Well I made the most of the nice weather this afternoon by attacking the carpet in the car, aided by Meg the quality control collie who quite likes to chase the end of the shampooer!
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7b5a6b39f5.jpg No Werthers originals to be found here... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e9cd3ba2db.jpg I can see food down here... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e21b9d6076.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7f13c0cf2e.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...92ba4fbeb9.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5c45f8097e.jpg And there was even a lagoon coloured beetle hanging about! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1416a9c094.jpg If anyone has a set of sandstone cloth seats in good condition for sale, send me a pm! |
It always amazes me that the carpets can come up so well with a bit of work , good luck with the car :}
|
Cracking on there Andy.
Meg not scared of the hoover? We had a Collie cross when I was a kid , he hated it. Used to wind him up by petting the hoover and saying good dog to it then switching it on so it swallowed his dog chocs! I did love him and we had him for years |
Looks like the two dogs get on ok then :D
|

Yeah they are settling ok 👍 |
Well today was spent removing the Chinese led headlight conversion, this also revealed a couple of broken headlight mounts, once sorted and back together with new bulbs, revealed a bulb warning light. Turns out I had a chafed wire in the usual place (over the top of the chassis)
Out with the soldering iron and a new piece of wire added and the little warning light was banished. I noticed some oil on the sump when I had the bumper off, turns out to be a hole in the sump. The oil is draining now, I will whip the sump off tomorrow before finding a replacement. |
Good to read the updates - looking forward to more photos as work progresses

Like me, you make a list of jobs and as you tick them off you find twice as many to replace them hehe!

Quote:
Yes Dawn, always the way with our cars, you can always find something that needs doing! |
The only thing I did today was to swap the rear door that was full of filler, not a bad colour match though 🤣
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b30311d1f3.jpg |
So trikey, are you going to paint the rest of the car to match??? :getmecoat::getmecoat::getmecoat:

:duh: Oh wait, that's that special GREEN one, isn't it? ;) |
Quote:
Yes afraid it is! It will be multicoloured for a while while I do all the other jobs, the respray will be the last thing to get done. |
Looks great.
I have two Lagoon’s myself now. Last made MG ZR and a mk1 25! :) |
Great to see another rare one being kept on the road :bowdown:
Once resprayed, I think a set of sparkle Starspokes would finish it off perfectly...:D (I know they're not strictly correct on a Mk1, but would look great against Lagoon). |

Nice one Andy. You're going to need a bigger yard! :DMike

Managed a couple of jobs today, got a wing and a sump from the scrapyard, as you can see the cause of the oil leak was that the sump had been scraped previously causing a crack.

Cracking on there Andy, looking good mate
|
I popped up to Kings Lynn this morning to collect a set of ppd sandstone seats and a rear blind from Snetty.
The rest of the day was spent removing the interior to fit a wiring loom as being a club spec car, it’s got wiring for nothing!! While I was in there I wired up the rear blind, and decided that the parking sensor ecu loom I have had for years needed a new home, so that went in too. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c7a0bd4d88.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4846958579.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...33049b2279.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ee8ec65b9d.jpg |
Is she looking for the beetle? Or diagnosing a noise? Could be a useful assistant. My Westie used to steal my tools when I was servicing the oil boiler. (BTW, that is not a euphemism for the CDT!)
|
Great pictures! ESPECIALLY the first one. Why? It gave me an awesome overview of the hand brake and compensator cover. Also, are those things under the seats HVAC ducts for back seat passengers? Does the duct in the centre console also connect to them?
Oh yes, honourable mention to the family picture, too. Thanks, Glenn |
Quote:
The centre air duct is a cold air feed to the rear vents in the console Glenn, the side ones as you say feed air to the rear of the car under the seats. |

No rush with the lagoon, it needs to go to Tom Hobbs to have the rear quarters put right before painting. |

The dogs always want to see what's going on Mick, either that or they are looking for food beneath the carpet!
I rescued a tourer that has been laid up for 3.5 years, that's taken up a bit of time just lately, hopefully ill get back onto the lagoon soon. |
Finger's crossed the Tourer will be a beauty!

Took the lagoon for an MOT last week (Well Deb did) It failed on front to rear brake pipes and the front indicators were not showing enough orange light.
I changed the brake pipes today and threw in a couple of orangey bulbs, then back for a retest this coming week. |
I would say nice save. Hell yea nice save mate.
Looks like a ton of work but it will be worth it. Good luck:bowdown: I will be watching with interest:beer2: |

I didn’t know you had this car! I made a half-hearted attempt to buy it a couple of years ago but the bloke wouldn’t budge on price. I always hoped it had gone to a good home. I’ve always loved the Lagoon colour but my fleet days are over now. Just down to three cars now, one of which is always being renovated some way or another!
|
Looks like good progress so far. Noticed in one of the pictures, door card covering is delaminating like in my silver car. Are you thinking to recover them or to replace? Seems to me now so long since production ended, the days of finding long lasting replacements might be a short lived solution. Soon be needing a card coverer in the forum. I can only imagine it being a tricky job to do well, a bit like welding.

I'll tell you one thing your andy yoru project car is still going strong and she's been well taken care of. ;)

The shut lines look ok from here Andy! Not a bad match for colour either. Might have looked better with a sunspot one though.

I hope you saved me the drivers seat!
