The Mintex pads I bought off eBay six months ago are awful: shed black dust continuously - and they've slightly warped. Never again.

Ditto to the Mintex pads, some kind soul had boxed up in a Bendix box, presumable as they'd fitted them, discovered just how cwap they were, then bought the Bendix to replace them.

I had Bendix fitted before, and thought I was about to replace like for like.......nope the Mintex pads in the box which I fitted, squeal dreadfully upon light brake application.

This is I suspect due to an inclusion in the friction material, as my fitting technique hasn't changed drastically over the past 30 odd years, and none of the rest of the fleet have squeaky brakes :getmecoat:

If these were real Mintex, they've gone downhill somewhat from the last time I fitted Mintex Don pads :icon_rolleyes:

I see from the many posts that people are changing brake pads with no thought for the discs on the car.
I know I keep harping on about this but if you fit mintex discs fit mintex pads. If you change both together you will find the wear is slow and even, with the normal amount of expected dust.
If you fit mintex discs and Brembo pads you will have much less dust and more metal as the Brembo pads being much harder will wear the mintex disc. The converse is also true if the car has Brembo discs on it and you fit mintex pads the mintex pads will wear much faster than the Brembo pads would as the disc is much harder steel.
Please if you don’t know what discs are fitted to your car either fit new discs and pads from the same manufacturer or if the old pads have worn evenly and have not damaged the discs, and if you know the make of pad you are removing then fit the same.
Back in the bad old days we used to put our pads and shoes in for relineing we specified the material we wanted fitted. This meant the pad material always matched up with the steel the disc was made from.
You can’t compare apples and oranges.

MGJohn, well said when you brakes are fitted they should be fully stripped down. Cleaned in brake cleaner, all surface corrosion removed, if the part can’t be cleaned up, replace it. If everything is clean and corrosion free, all parts of the calliper should move freely, all moving parts should have the correct lubricant applied. The back of the brake pad should have anti squeal grease applied.
Please make sure the new pad runs freely up and down the carrier. Frequently pads metal backing does not quite fit freely, a light file taken to the offending ragged edge makes all the difference.

I did. Bought as a Mintex set off eBay: and they've been bloomin' awful. Front wheels need washing every week. Can't recommend 'em.

Are you sure they were genuine? There is a lot of fake stuff out there.

I suspect not, I won't buy Mintex because of that exact reason ;)
