Worth checking one or more of your rear brake shoes haven't broken free from their pins and clips.

I had an Austin 1800 some years ago and the nearside front bearing went on that while on the motorway taking a friends girlfriend and her kids to Bristol. It went as we were passing Nottingham.
Trust me, the grinding noise doesn't go away when you apply the brakes :D By the time we got to Bristol the housing had split as well. My mate down there knew someone who worked in a garage, and he put a steel band round it to hold it together. It went again a few weeks later and the front dropped significantly. I just left it on a side street and called the scrappys. They wanted £10 to pick it up. I said no, but a couple of days later went past the road and it was gone :} |
Not a wheel bearing but you do have to take the wheel off and make a visual inspection for anything loose.
