Who's face did you draw inspiration from when you designed the sticker? ;)

whitevanman 27th October 2014 21:32

Only 45k to go!!...But that is about 10/11 years at our annual mileage.

Nice idea fella :}

carguy143 28th October 2014 10:12

Nice idea that. I'm about 75% of the way there.

They should give us v6 owners a cambelt sticker, for those committed enough to the cause to shell out for this job.

Pistonbroke666 28th October 2014 11:16

This is awesome!!!

zero2 28th October 2014 11:23

Only another 135,000 miles to go.

It's a great idea!!

klarzy 28th October 2014 11:52

you are just trying to gather fellow Lyconthropes ain't cha

gathering naked in the moonlight and chasing bunnies cross the countryside..;)

I half expected to see your unclothed behind in the back window:shrug:

Avulon 28th October 2014 14:58

An excellent idea - I can't wait: only 75,000 miles or thereabouts to go! (that'll be about 5 years I reckon). :D

Should there be a badge for half that distance - The 'Half Moon Club' perhaps ??

And perhaps a special badge for the low milers (below 50k maybe?) - We can call it the 'End of the Street and No further' club :getmecoat: :D:D

It's fascinating how differently 75's in different countries are considered.
In Australia Rovers have a very different place in automotive history.
Not a chance in a million would one end up as a taxi. We have Holdens and locally designed Fords for that.
When Rovers were rebadged Hondas we had government policies designed to aid our local manufacturers and had Holden designed and built cars rebadged as Toyotas. Nope. We didnt fall for it. Long story... But...point is, rebadging was seen as a sort of sin. Rovers were seen as Hondas and then the brand disappeared altogether.
Rover as genuine Rovers reappeared with the 75 briefly then disappeared again.
Now the 75 is seen as a very rare luxury vehicle that's most likely way too expensive to maintain. Just about right too :)

klarzy 29th October 2014 10:12

And a line free IPK for it too!

Yes Brian Frosty's twin has now done 228000 so between us we can beat the taxi mileage - they must have been hotbunking to get it that far.

Hope the engine wasn't running when you took the pic. :getmecoat:

Am working away this week so will post a photo of the auto's mileage when I get back.

Cheers

Haha we had started doing this in September, great minds and all that!!!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...2e2f11193dc0e1

Sadly the first batch came back three times the size wanted so I'm awaiting a fresh batch!

First two are just the amber red in our cars, then its, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond and finally for 450,000 miles "moon" surface as that would get you there any back in miles!

500k mile one is a special I'm looking forward to present it to the first local owner at that millage.

hamster19 8th June 2015 22:55

The closest the moon gets to the earth is 225,623 miles, the furthest is 252,088 miles - I did not know this, just found out. :}

p2roverman 8th June 2015 22:59

There's a chance my P4 could be close, problem with the older cars of course is that the speedos are likely to have been changed due to failure, and the actual mileage not corrected. It's also possible to cheat, but I hope that doesn't happen.

I saw this post when it first appeared and thought great stuff, i am well on my way.
I have ever since been eagerly awaiting my arrival at the moon.
For some reason i had the figure of 234,000 od miles stuck in my head.
Imagine my shock today when on checking this thread i find that i passed the moon several thousand miles ago.
I did not see it!
I am sure i did not fall asleep.
Which way should i turn, left or right?
Am I heading home or off to get lost in deep space?
Feeling a bit worried now.

Plezier 27th August 2016 08:24

so long as you had the IPK virginised and fitted then the Odometer reading will be correct as its stored in several different places in the car and have to sync ;)

Mike Noc 14th December 2016 10:19

Depends what wasn't working though - if the OSF ABS sensor had packed up then nothing would be recording the mileage until it was fixed.

It would be great if the moon milers could post what parts (engine only) they have or had not had to replace.

I do not think I have seen a single instance yet of turbo failure on these units.

I pray this is not famous last words.

Firstly thank you Trikey for my badges it arrived this morning. I've not had to replace one part on my engine or gearbox T16. I must have replaced many suspension parts but nothing in the power department. Alternator once, and the pulley wheel thing that rattles that's about it.

I pray this is not famous last words.

Turbo, all four injectors, HP fuel pump and crank pulley on my car are all original, and the engine has never been apart.

Failed items are the MAF, cam sensor, water pump, thermostat, radiator top hose connector at the cylinder head, starter motor solenoid contacts and the alternator brushes - the commutator rings were well worn too.

trikey 21st January 2017 17:27

I have had, one clutch (at 200k) replaced one injector and one alternator.

FLYING BANANA 21st January 2017 21:16

In that case, I'll try and get to the moon a bit quicker.

timspencer 22nd January 2017 09:35

I've hard my car 3 months and she's done about 500 miles, none since before Christmas as she only comes out when it's dry.

ZedTeeT 22nd January 2017 16:53

Well fortunately I know most of my cars history as my father owned it from 2 and a half years old, although as a company car had already notched up 80k by then! He gave it to me last November and I used it until the MOT ran out in September. She now needs a front suspension overhaul and an ABS issue sorting, so off the road until it warms up a bit! Anyway, I've spoken to my father at length about it and it transpired that he had to spend very little on it over the years, just wear and tear items mostly. As far as the engine and components are concerned, the only thing he's replaced is the alternator. No fuel pumps, no injectors, no turbo, no sensors, nothing! I couldn't quite believe it, but in his ownership it cost him very little. She starts first turn of the key every time, doesn't smoke and still feels strong. She was off to the knackers yard but I just couldn't let it happen. Suspension wise, she's tired, very tired as that too is all original with nothing replaced. Even so, I think she wears her 232k well and in my eyes worth the time and expense to save. I fell into MG ownership, and must say that I'm very happy to be here.

Cheers all

Jay

Well it's got there..... on the way back from work today it got to the moon, but couldn't stop to take a picture, so had to do that after I got home.

So now on the way back to earth again.... wonder if it'll make it? :D

Boo hoo, I cannot see my name on the list.
I posted my mileage august 2016 when I was already on my way back. I am a bit closer to home now so will post the current reading later to see if I can get a bit higher up the listings.:}

My Wifes 1.8 is on around 144,000 now so still quite a way to go to get there. When I check my mileage I will be able to work out when I pass her on my way back so I can give her an encouraging wave.

Sorry Brian, on the list now 😃

dbt01 1st October 2017 10:51

At 208,000 my 'Olive' is almost certainly the nearest V8 on the way there.
... but I'm now retired and not doing the miles, so I guess may never make it, at least not with me!

Heard tell of a car in Italy(?) that has over way over 500k miles on the clock, so probably already touched back down from the return trip and off to do it again!

Marinabrian T4'd a taxi once with nearly 600k on the clock, my old number 317 was on 180k when I sold it..

good plan, I shall do my bestest...

jgriffo 1st October 2017 21:21

Now up to 245747 miles compared to the 225942 in my first post.

Mechanically I think most of the major parts are original. The only bit that isn't original since my first post is the autobox, which destroyed itself a few months after, which I replaced with a second hand unit that had just done 100k. So most of the car has been to the moon and is on its way back.... but the gearbox is still on its way there :D

Now also working on my second 75, also a CDT, but has a mere 156k on the clock, so a while to go there.

I have to hold my head in shame - I'm temporarily using a BMW 330d to shuttle myself around in while the ZT-T undergoes major surgery.
However, this 330d has covered 275,000 miles! It's going to go bang at any moment though... history suggests it should have done so at around 150,000. :D

The ZT-T is on 190,000 and shall be part of the Moon Club next year :)

I'm getting there slowly with "Lucky" the ZT-T
