Update

Just to update this thread, today I guided Mal through testing all three speeds of his fan/control box assembly and I'm pleased to say that it is in full working order without any need for repairs.

Further to Simons' (SD1too) update, Id like to thank him for his meticulous instruction over the phone whilst testing. Quite often written instruction can be slightly ambiguous to a wiring amateur, over the phone gives a facility to repeat back the action before 'wiring up' making it fool proof. Motor, fan and surround, along with a new condenser for A/C and the slam panel are now refitted whilst waiting for a mobile A/C engineer to test then recharge the system. Fingers crossed!
