British Steel - new owner
 

Looks like British Steel has been bought by new Chinese owners - thousands of jobs saved.

Hopefully really good news!!

Sincerely hope so. My biggest worry is political interference as the governments in power scuppered the hopes of the workforce at Redcar...twice.

What a wonderful country in which to invest for the future, lots more putting their money where the future lies.

Why would the Chinese Government allow a Chinese company to buy British Steel when China has more than sufficient capacity to flood the world with steel (which it does already)?

Next step, close it down turning it into a sales department for China Steel.:mad:

Maybe British Steel make certain grades that are better than Chinese ones? Some of their pattern made parts leave a lot to be desired.

It's the thin edge of the wedge.

The Chinese have already bought most of the chateaus here in France.

Really? Is no-one else embarrassed that HMG allows a Chinese outfit to buy about our last steel maker? What have we come to . . .

Clever, these Chinese. They are even shooting dissidents right now in HK. They are obviously in turmoil and we might be able to help them come to terms with the outside world. It's surprising the difference an outward looking expansionist mindset makes.

What do you expect when HMG of whatever colour do sweet F A to support our industries

Just last month it was revealed that due to”Green Taxes” on top of already high energy costs our steel industry suffers electricity costs to make its product £55 million higher than the equivalent cost of its French rivals.

Two simple ways to make a profit - Sell more product and make the product less expensive.

Governments have consistently tied our industries up in knots.

This is the result.

My fear is the Chinese will take all our high technology and then walk away in less than a decade.

Just seen your post Dave! Of course it can be seen as embarrassing if only the bare bones are studied. One assumes many and varied precautions have been taken to protect what needs to be but my thought was their interest in the company and the business climate.

As with all business interests it takes a combination of finance, opportunity and, not least, confidence in the market. That last factor illuminates the cobblers that have been rubbishing our country and its prospects on the world stage in recent years. There has been the manufactured smell of decay at many levels but what counts in the real world is pragmatism.

Our historical manufacturing base has been shrinking since 1945 and new adventures, in areas of which we are still world leaders, are breaking out. When nobody wants to come here to further their business we are sunk!
