generic car parts and the eu
this news item was on this evenings news and also in todays telegraph (but as that is behind a paywall) i quote a link from todays express which is the only other place i could find it (after a quick skim search).
https://www.express.co.uk/life-style...s-car-parts-EU presumably,, generic parts would still be available to us diy'ers. And I'm surprised the extra cost using genuine parts is only £100/annum. |

what ever happened to free and fair open trade?

I wouldn't worry, it's the first we've heard of this and we've got many years worth of most lines in storage.
I can't see this how this will affect our cars :) |
Another hoax
We have been told many times we have left the EU and can do anything we want as a "third country" The UK is not subject to the EU court of justice, and the ruling party is supreme. Any party with a majority can make any laws it wishes, and all the courts must follow those laws. Boris told us we have "got brexit done" so any interference is not possible. And as the EU in the past failed to fall for the car makers (and white goods manufacturers etc) pressing to make any aftermarket parts illegal, with the manufacturers saying aftermarket parts were "potentially dangerous" it is highly unlikely this is anything more than the tory press following their own agenda that the EU, although we have left, is the source of all our problems. Convenient mind... Best, Frank B

EU block exemption regulations
For the sake of brevity, the EU laws allow car and other manufacturers to create authorised repair networks - "so long as the do not restrict competition". They also state that manufacturers must supply independent repair providers, outside of their own sanctioned networks, with parts and information to allow them to provide competition. Extracts follow - : this allows vehicle manufacturers to create networks of selective and exclusive dealerships, provided that they do not contain any serious restrictions of competition - giving authorised repairers (independent garages) access to technical information and spare parts - . The regulation ensures that all service and repair work could be undertaken by any garage whether an authorised or independent dealership. So any excuse for raising prices blown out of the water. If anybody tries to use this as a lever to put up prices, we need to know. Best wishes, Frank B
