Non-factory engines: What would you put in your ZT?

Hi guys

I'm interested in taking my ZT to the 300bhp mark and with the 1.8T it takes a few quid to get it to that point safely.

Being fairly open minded and not much of a purist, I thought I'd check out some other options.

The 1.8T VAG lump seems to get some fanfare made about it and performance parts are relatively cheap. The engine has a history of being taken to some fairly lofty figures.

AMW Motorsport (previously AA Autosport) have in the past transplanted the engine into a ZS and in the process created an adapter to the existing gearbox. I've reached out for a little more info from them about doing the same on the ZT.

What I'd like to ask is if you were to consider a different engine that wasn't available from the factory and you were looking for performance, what would you choose? Budget wise ~£5k.

Cheers

James

PS, post number 1000!

If money weren't an issue I'd stick an RB26DETT engine from a R34 GTR skyline in with the 4wd :D now that would give you 500bhp+ ;) Very unrealistic though aha.

Would be interesting what the solution is though :}

It might not be AMW... It might be Reyland Motorsport that did the ZS...

That would be crazy!

Being biased (I have a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo) I would love the engine in a ZT. 5 cylinder loveliness. A nitrous one I think has 600 BHP (FWD ). I think that is the Abarth 2.4 lump turbo'd.

I think you can reliably get 350BHP out of them for a couple of K's.

Mind you the fit is tight in a Coupe. Not sure how it would fit in a ZT. Might need tyre levers and lots of vaseline. :D Oooerrrr missus!

And of course Italian talking to British electrics - "You wanna do what, ma fai!! Come back next week when we are working!!".

My Mrs. had a year-old 220 Coupe many moons ago.....that was...er...nippy, to put it mildly! Would that mill fit and be tweakable? Rover too!

the Z20LET is pretty popular amongst the Vauxhall owners. 2.0 engine and have seen quite a few claiming the 300bhp mark.

Jag 5.0 supercharged V8. In a FWD  (kidding)
