Ford Focus ST ...

My car had the misfortune of being hit up the rear on tuesday night whilst in traffic and its now in to see if it can be repaired or a write off. Ive got whiplash but thank the Lord no one else was hurt.
I have been given a 66 reg Ford Focus ST with a 2 litre turbo engine with approx 250bhp as a loan car as I drove a high end car.
I cant work out if I like it or not.
Plus points:
Goes like stink in all gears
Has superb heated electric leather Recaro seats
Sat nav and a massive entertainment system with touch screen
Open the door and the ST kick plates light up red!
Its new and has folding mirrors heated seats and front screen etc

Minus points:
Although I used to love my RS turbos Xr2 s etc I just feel very uncomfortable driving this car. Its just so hard to drive it sensibly without spinning wheels etc and it has all the gubbins we dream of but it still feels tinney and light weight.
It looks the business with the joined twin exhaust out of the middle of the rear bumper and huge wheels but it just in my eyes feels too flash.

I drove my 320d M sport to the repairers today and it just felt very easy to drive, no stupid gadgets that you need a week in a classroom to master, it felt very well made and tight even with 102k miles. Its 184 Bhp so no slouch but If you wish to drive it like a grandad there is no problem.

I think the years of MG ZTs has caught up on me and just want a comfortable non complicated drive without pressing loads of buttons just to turn the radio on!:o

Oh and I would love to meet the muppet who designed the keyless system where you dont put it in the dash. Where the hell do you put the key? You need it when you get out to press the lock button so its not if you walk away it locks. (Or maybe it does!:o)
I might get to like it but its been ages since Ive driven a hot hatch and what a shock to the system it is!

Hired one of those a few weeks back and was disappointed in the experience, much prefer the 75 in every way.
Agree with key comment. Had same experience with a Nissan Rogue crossover in Canada, complete pain in the proverbial.

Why do they over complicate things? Takes away the idea of a car that does all the hard work for you and you can enjoy the ride.

I’ve driven a friends ST and I quite like it. It’s very quick, has all the toys, looks good. I know what you mean about it feeling lighter but it’s designed that way with it being a sportier, quick car. I like it.

Have a look at the new I30N, drive modes from going to the shops to track mode and the suspension is adjustable from the cars head unit so you can set the car up before you set off. Fantastic bit of kit and the warranty will cover track use :drool4: Faster and cheaper than an ST too ;)

If it is a proper keyless model, then you can lock it by touching th slight indentation on the exterior handle. Then when you want to unlock it just walk up and open the door as normal and it will unlock ;)

The focus St is the yob of the highways.. once tamed it is fun to drive, but still not a patch on mk1 and 2 escorts lol..

My Pajero used to lock it’s self after 5 mins, if the sensors didn’t detect any movement.. was a right pain until I got used to it lol
