Servicing and repairs map?
 

There hasn’t been enough input into this to justify a map. In addition to those already on the T4 map and our traders these garages have been recommended by members

Just as a by question.... regarding T4 and servicing.....

Brown and Gammons are in Baldock and have a T4.... and obviously do servicing.

And I was surprised to not se Phil not on the map........or has that been covered ?

Phil and Brian aren't on the T4 map as both of them are in the situation that their work has changed and time available to work on cars is greatly reduced.

OK, I'll create the map. Can you post details of recommended places for servicing and repairs either here or by PM.

I can't see this getting off the ground. I've had virtually no input, only two responses I've had qualify for the T4 map rather than recommended garages etc for servicing and repairs. I'm looking for your local (or not) garage that knows what they are doing with our cars, places you'd be happy to tell others about. I only know places I've dealt with, I can't create the map without you supplying the info.

there is a garage in Hitchin Hertfordshire.

But it is only a car garage not a specialist.

Having said that they are good and have done a belt change a few years ago....... but quite pricey

Thanks Graham. I knew about Thompson's and was going to put them on the T4 map but they don't have a website and didn't have their address. To further complicate matters there's two Thomson's in Edinburgh!

This could take a while! So far only three markers on the map. I know there are traders here who don't have a "shop" in the traders section but do servicing, repairs etc, unless you're already on the T4 map stick your hands up guys!

Hi Steve

Only used these guys for a exhaust alignment on my ZT cheapo back box. Tried a few different outfits and nobody could get it to align properly or stop the exhaust knocking when you switch the engine off. They did.

They were quick and efficient and reasonable cost wise.

The original T4 map is great - but Im surprised at how little there is showing within an hour of West London, I thought there was a guy near Wokingham who I met at a local meet ages ago! Also PhilT4 around Milton Keynes - or maybe you are way ahead and these guys have stopped trading.:shrug:

I am at Newark and at first struggled to find a good garage. I do almost all the work myself but got caught out when replacing the rear wheel bearings and then getting an ABS fault. I thought it was nearside rear but didn't want to replace leads unless I knew which one it was. Saw this garage in Lincoln recommended on another Rover site. They diagnosed and replaced nearside ABS unit for reasonable cost.
Last year I got awful knock on my transmission and thought it might be drive shafts. The service manager only took a minute to diagnose DMF failure so 10 month old clutch etc. and DMF were replaced again at reasonable cost. I think they were a Rover MG agent and first photo on website shows a Rover MG Specialist notice on the wall.

I trust these people and recommend them. They could diagnose the ABS failure as they said they had the right equipment so maybe they have a T4.

Info is coming in very slowly compared to the T4 map, only six marker on the map so far.

Re PhilT4 (and Brian) their "day jobs" have changed which means they no longer have as much time available and have dropped out as traders, temporarily I hope.

Steve, I was going to put this garage forward for your garage map, but it appears that they are t4 equipped so they can be added to the t4 map.
They've always promoted themselves as a Rover specialist, family members have used them for other makes of cars and been very happy.

Thanks Jon but unlike the T4 map there's been so little input to this a map is pointless, be so few markers on it. Anybody with a good servicing/repair location seems to be keeping it to themselves!

Now that I am finding it difficult to complete repairs, can get down ok but it's the getting up that's the problem -
Anyway, I've found a garage which, for the last 2 years or so has proved to be an honest and intelligent repairer. Garage is first class and really very modern. The owner Richard, who is very knowledgeable, did impress me. Also, their Charge-out- rate is more than reasonable. If I want anything done, I type it up for him (that's me) He will use any parts you supply and if you require, will let you have the displaced items back. He's very approachable and I highly recommend them.
I like to provide the parts as I only purchase the best (OEM where possible)

All the places I've been told about are in the list at the start of this thread. Check the T4 map (link in my signature below) as well.

In Brighton and Hove I have always used THWAITES.
MG Rover specialist (along with others) but very knowledgeable and trustworthy and often go above and beyond.
Not the cheapest, but you know what they say...
Definitely recommend from my experience.

Has anyone used Austin Garages near Burton on Trent?

If its for repairs and MOT I use JLH Motors Silkmore lane Stafford. I always go there. He knows about our Rover 75 and a good honest chap. His prices are very good to. I've use the garage for quite a few years now.


I have not used Austin Garages near Burton on Trent so cannot say about them.

Hi fellow Staffordian, are JLH any good with tracking? I’m after a rear wheel geometry check, mine seems to be toeing in from my tyre wear. I’ve been to a couple of places and I’m not convinced when I’m told “you can’t do it on these” cheers Graham

Hello GBCB1986 and fellow Staffordian. Sorry they do not do tracking. When mine needed doing JLH and a few people I know said to us Mr Tyre Ltd unit D Dorrington Drive Stafford. I had full tracking do by them 2 years ago and very pleased. they did show me how much out before the stated to sort them. So I would recommend them.

Not sure if Rovertech are still going but they were top of Portrack Lane, towards Stockton:shrug:

I only use northeast 4x4 Ross Road (off Portrack Lane). Used them for many years now They are all ex LandRover.

I have a ZT180 in London that needs a KV6 belt change and a full service as well.

Does anyone have experience with a knowledgeable garage in the London area?

Sadly, Central Motors in Streatham that used to look after my Rover cars appear to have closed so any help would be appreciated!

Darren worked for many years for rover dealers then opened up on his own when it all went pear shaped. He’s very fair and knowledgeable he’s a wizz at the old head gasket his tales of visiting longbridge are very interesting indeed

He used to run a Mk1 Monogram ZS 180 himself so well versed in the tight squeeze of the KV6 into the ZS

I checked the Souls website, still up so didn't change anything on the T4 map.
