Dreaded super locked door
 

Hi from what I have now learned from the forums, the first severe frost has brought me the dreaded super locked front passenger door. As my 75 is an immaculate cowley car with the Neptune blue interior I don’t want the door card damaged. Because of my Parkinson’s I cannot attempt to fix it myself. Does anyone know of any specialists in Lincolnshire who could repair this for me?

How about running a small fan heater inside the car for half an hour to see if the heat will allow the lock to open.

Just a thought.

I had this issue last night could pull the door handle but nothing happened i used a couple of jugs warm water over the door handle and it freed up dont no if same issue

As above. Probably frozen. As it's the passenger door, run the engine up to temp and put the heating up full for a while. A heat gun or hairdryer around the door edges and over the lock should free it (assuming that it is frozen).

It was initially frozen but I managed to open from it from the inside, drove to the supermarket and my wife got out ok but 30 minutes later we could not get in using either of the handles. This was yesterday today in much warmer weather still not working despite the door button coming up.
So from what I read it is the super locking sticking on.

I dont believe this is the superlocking. It happens to me regularly in cold weather. It eventually opens though. There is a how to somewhere to fix it, but I havent got around to doing it.

If you get stuck or worried, (this is what I do when it is raining), insert the key in the driver's side, and turn it to the right and hold, so the windows all drop (total opening). Reach in and open from the inside.

The inside lock doesn’t release it either though🤔🤔🤔

If it is the very cold weather freezing the mechanism inside the door then you need to dissipate that moisture.

If you can get some WD 40 sprayed down into the door this will stop the linkage from freezing up.

It's not a mechanical failure and nothing needs replacing just something to dissipate the damp between the moving parts that freeze up.

Thanks I’ll try it but I don’t understand how when the door was initially frozen I could open the door from inside latch. It was only 30 minutes later when we returned to the car the inside latch didn’t work. Neither did it today when the temperature is warmer. But given it is a no lose , no hassle job I’ll give it a go 🙂

If it doesn't respond to the hot water or warming up then my experience with this is that when the locks freeze we pull on the handle and the plastic clip that encapsulates the threaded bar slips a thread or the double offset on the bar is bent a little more giving the same effect. this then leaves the lock mechanism in limbo until you can remove and refit the plastic clip.
Sounds difficult but is more fiddly than anything else. the hard part is getting the door card off undamaged with the door closed.
