Yes I was Andy. Julian Anderson mentioned he did it. I must admit it’s something I’ve never done before when changing discs but was shocked at how far out it was even after cleaning the hub. It was running out at 18 thou so took the disc off again and cleaned the hub until it was shining. Julian suggested checking run out on the hub and after a really good clean it was fine. Final run out was 2 thou so left it at that

Good to see someone taking the time to do things properly, its surprising what a small amount of muck can do.

Makes you cringe when you think most garages just clash on a pair of discs :duh:

I think that’s what’s been happening before as it took ages to get the hubs spotless but felt good when you actually see the results

Doing the 190 now. Not as shiny as your job though. Just waiting for my own DTI gauge prior to fitting new discs. Never used one before so your useful pic will be my starting point.:} Going to play around with the old ones first to see the effect of cleaning everything up and check the bearings are OK too.

Remember to check the runout on the hub prior to fitting the disc, this makes sure your starting point is correct. Something I didn’t do until Julian pointed me in that direction, obvious when you think about it but we don’t always think that way :D. You’ll be in for a shock as to how much difference cleaning the parts make and as Trikey states garages just bang the discs on as I’m sure most of us do/did

Thanks for the tips. I just feverishly opened a surprisingly heavy Amazon parcel labelled DTI gauge to find a very well made fuel injector sliding hammer extraction kit. The supplier has readily accepted my return:D
Brakes will have to wait a little longer but a bit more cleaning won't hurt while I'm waiting.

A few years back I couldn't get a new disc to run true, so took the disc off and checked the hub itself.

It was bent - maybe a heavy kerbing had damaged it? :shrug:

New hub fitted and all was well again. :}

I hope those nuts are stainless Aerotights?

Where did you get the paint and correct stickers for the shocks ?
