Electric Cars on Fire - lots of them
Reference Daily Mail Saturday 19th Feb. Page 38
At least £75 million pounds worth of high end cars are on fire in the mid Atlantic. Crew evacuated, Boat also on fire. Attributed to Audi car batteries. Ships Hold has capacity for 4,000 vehicles, may not have been fully loaded. |
The ship will I suspect have fire suppression but once the fire gets going, it may be so hot water cannot cope.
we need pictures or video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcf9ilnJrTw something not right about the video, looks like it contains video of two different ships macafee2 |

The article does say, and I've heard this before (from a fire brigade?) that Lithium battery's require specialist fire fighting equipment / procedures.
Letting the battery's simply burn themselves out is current thinking, by some. |
I was told it was because VW av wanted to get rid of un sold diesel emision fiddled cars in a fire sale... But hey why ruin a good story with th truth...

The VW car carrier sank off the Azores today. https://splash247.com/mols-fire-rava...ff-the-azores/

That article quotes the loss estimated to be $438 million.
Presumably that includes the ship, and other cargo. Considerably more than the £75 million of cars, originally reported. |

Some companies will have to take quite a financial hit I suspect until this is all worked out. macafee2 |
