Overheated 1.8 N/A Saloon

1.8 N/A Connoisseur Saloon. Wedgewood blue. Manual.

Car overheated, dial went right up , stopped and recovered to garage. Says it ' needs a new engine '.

This car belongs to a lady and is situated in Cornwall. She says she wants to dispose of it in the best way and would not like it to be scrapped , as she has taken care of it. She realises that cars of this age do not now sell for £xxxxxx

It has been regularly used, and garage serviced .

It does not belong to me . but if you are interested in saving this from a scrappy in any way, send me a PM for details and owners phone number.

Obviously a non-runner at the moment ,possibly an HGF on its way . Been a good runner and regularly serviced . Now stored in Cornwall.

Is there anyone near this lady in Bodmin who can take a look at this car , to help her decide on the best course of actiion ? Sell as is , repair or scrap ?
Or even to confirm the diagnosis ?

:iagree:

It could be something as simple as complete failure of the radiator fan, and that's easily checked. In fact, given instructions, the lady could do it herself.

We all know that when a garage says "needs a new engine", it doesn't! ;)

Derek; maybe retitling your thread "Help needed in Bodmin" might attract the right members?

Thanks for your reply .

Simon, that is well known within the club , but this lady is a ex of a relative and I do not know her capabilities . I do know though that she would not like to see it scrapped due to a faulty diagnosis , so if there is anyone out there who can spare the time to give it a once-over, it would be a great help .

Scrappy getting nearer

Well then, if nobody can spare the time to have a look, can anyone suggest a competent garage near Bodmin ?.

Saga Lout 4th December 2016 18:44

Perhaps.

It's quite possibly the time of the year, I'd say to the lady put the car away until the new year. At this time I'd think that everyone is gearing up for the festive season, who really has the time to work on any cars at this point? It just seems like the wrong moment to ask but, in a few weeks it can all change when the pressure is off. I'm really pushing myself to finish the 75 I'm selling and it's hard enough to do just now.
It's just a thought but a likely one.

Understood Derek, but as the clock is ticking I'm sure that, with your guidance over the phone, she could press the demist button and listen at the front of the car for a noise like a hairdryer? If it's silent then at least there's hope. :wink2:
