radiator fan constantly running
 

Hi my 2005 Rover CDTi Tourer has gone from a reliable trusted friend to a shambles in one weekend. First I noticed the electrics doing strange things such as the fuel gauge rising towards full and then the radiator cooling fan running at full chat.and continuing to run until I disconnected the battery. After leaving the car dormant for a week with the battery disconnected I finally got round to connecting it again. The fan started immediately and continued to run.
I then noticed when I started the car that the mileage is now showing 999999
Any advise greatly appreciated

Have you had any unusual battery issues? Have you needed a jump start recently?


The 999999 problem is usually due to a voltage spike following a battery problem, so the system's memory chip (EEPRO) is corrupted.
Unfortunately, this isn't a DIY fixable problem. You'll need a T4 specialist who can rewrite the EEPROM. Marinabrian does a postal service on this.

Your fan issue may or may not be related. I'd guess at not. Statistically, diesel fans go awry mainly due to a component failure in the control box circuit board. I'm sue you'll get more on these in a mo.

Have you checked the plenums sounds like the ECU could be swimming or as at least got wet, also have you jump started the car recently as that can cause the 999999 problem, if so then a new EEprom or one from another IPK then introduced to the car with a T4

You and I alike (see earlier post)! In my case though, it's just the high speed fan that won't cut out. I've had to remove the 80A fuse for now and will have to wait until the new year to get it fixed.

Thanks for the information, I will run through the Christmas break and see . The battery was put on charge before I reconnected it; so I guess that's what has done the mileage. I have another 75 so will use that for now.

HI ,Happy New Year to you all.
I am in need of a replacement cooling fan module {ECM} This appears to be the fault with my constantly running fan.
2005 Rover 75 tourer CDTi
Any pointers??

Diesel systems are quite often affected by failure of the printed circuit board in the control box (the one with the relays). Is that what you mean? If so, check out the threads by FrenchMike, who fixes them.

does your car have a silver resistor? what is wrote on the control box PWM2 or M47 most likely a relay sticking or the PCB board faulty.

Just to clarify what others have said, the fault lies inside your fan control box.
Try to avoid using the abbreviation 'ECM' which can cause confusion. It specifically stands for Engine Control Module and is used only to describe the master electronic unit located at the base of the windscreen.

Arctic will be able to help you find the problem with your fan control box.
