Independent garages v supermarket fuel prices

How come some independent garages can sell fuel so much cheaper than some supermarkets? Filled up today at one with petrol at 167.9 p/l. Chap who took the cash told me that oil prices are on the slide and it should be cheaper.

Fuel Prices

They should be coming down a lot more, at the height of oil prices (Mar 22) was $127.98 a barrel, and now it is $92.34 a barrel, so fuel prices should drop down quite a bit, but as we all know, they won't as too many hands in the pot

Today came across a garage at the seaside where petrol was 165.9 and diesel 175.9. Unfortunately, not where i live.

I seem to remmeber as a student circa 1974 four star was 33p per gallon - just over 7p a litre!

Either way thankfully my very big diesel still runs on red diesel though it drinks a large amount!

I remember filling up the twin tanks on my battered old XJ6 in 1976. I seem to recollect they were 10/11 gallons each side. Thought it was very expensive at the time, but I really enjoyed that car.
