Well That Didn't Go According To Plan.....

Went to change the door handle with a replacement that I got from Trikey, and in the process broke the metal hook on the wire.

That means I can now only open the drivers door by opening the window and using the external handle.

I'm feeling rather stupid round about now....... :duh:

Hush you, before I let everybody know you thought the plastic bumper on your Mondeo was rusty....... :P

Had same problem on a rear passenger door, found out when I sat in the back, keys in the front ignition off and I could not get out :)

I had to ask a passer by to open the door.
I cant recall how I fixed it but I know I did not replace with the right cable.
agh, found it. Here is a link to how I solved it

Yes - surely you've heard of Plastic Rust?
You can remove it by applying marmalade and leaving it in the sun for 17 years.

David, get a piece of electrical chockblock, and a net curtain hook.

http://www.lightwiring.co.uk/wp-cont...hoc-block.jpeg

Remove both screws from the chockblock and push out the brass part, then refit the screws

Chop the snapped end off the cable, and attach the hook to the cable using the chockblock insert.

This can now be used in place of the snapped off hook ;)

Have fun

Brian :D

Or you could just replace the cable 👍

And what a nightmare changing a door cable is! I’d go with the diy options

I've changed a couple! Not too bad if you've got a spare actuator and can see how it hooks around. Takes about 10 mins with the doorcard off. I'd recommend getting at least a photo of an actuator if you've not changed one before!
