Newby key advice

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section, please forgive a newby!
Just purchased a V6 Auto Saloon, 2004. Delighted with everything and really happy with my purchase but a longish list of things to check and do. Top of the list is a second key, it only came with the one. Contacted previous owner to no avail. Read many forum topics and best advice seems to be to pay Rimer Bros for a replacement. Am I right in thinking I will then need to get the blade cut and perhaps find someone to "match" the key electronically (T4?).
Not sure if I have understood correctly or if this advice is all still current as many of the threads are quite old. If I am correct can anyone suggest suitable people to perform the supplementary tasks, post key purchase? I am in the Market Rasen area, Lincolnshire. Any help gratefully recieved!

You can order a key that will work "out of the box" through Xpart but you'll pay for the privilege, think £220 is the going rate. Far better to go to one of the T4 bods who do keys, that will set you back £70, that gets you a key that operates the central locking, has a transponder paired with the car's immobiliser, just need to get the blade copied from your original key (any decent independent locksmith 10-15 quid?). Nearest key guy I suspect would be BigRuss, about 80 miles away in Liversedge.

Marinabrian or bigruss can do a key via post, if you need a T4 at all give me a shout as I’m often in the market Rasen area.

I would speak with Big Russ one of the traders on here who offers a key replacement service - Price is approx £ 70 plus a general T4 check. Send him a PM and take it from there.

He is about 80 miles ( 1.5 - 2 hrs ) from you ( exit 25 off the M62 ) .

He fixed me up at the time with a second key for my MG ZTT, so have personal experience.

You can get them from BMW , but they cost circa. £230 .

Good luck.

Wow, thanks for the quick response everyone. I will be following up on your good advice and hope to have a key from Big Russ one way or another. Thanks Trikey, I will let you know if I need access to T4.

Only drawback with getting a key by post from Russ is you'd need to remove the EWS (immobiliser) from the car and send it to him so that he can program the immobiliser transponder for the key then you'd need to involve Andy (Trikey) to program the key's PCB serial number into the car to get it to operate the central locking. Better to have a day out to Russ', he makes a mean cup of tea :D He did a 2nd key for the 260 I bought local to him before I drove the 4 hours home.

The thanks button becomes available once you hit ten posts.
