T4/TOAF Question

Is it possible to change the engine map on MEMS3/K series (non-turbo) with T4 or TOAF, or does it need more exotic/specialist software?

Got a 75 that's struggling with a set of 135 cams in, think I've eliminated anything physically wrong with the engine and I'm increasingly hearing the opinion that it's map related.

I seem to remember the public version of TOAF doesn't communicate with MEMS3.

The fitting of 135 cams to a 120 1800 should run ok on the 120 map as far as I believe as I’ve never read of issues before after this has been done. Maybe SAWS tuning can help?

That's what I thought as well, unless it's something car specific.

It runs too rich at idle (likes to throw P1300 and P1316 codes with random multiple misfires thrown in sometimes too), but then seems to be a bit lean up the top of the rev range (which is not unexpected I guess).
Should add that it starts no bother, and runs OK until it goes open circuit control, then is awful before it goes away again as it gets warm. Runs fine when hot.

Compression OK, timing OK, no air leaks, coolant & oil temp sensors OK. pscan livedata shows nothing obviously amiss either so I'm at a bit of a loss really.

It needs to have the adaptations cleared, then then the ECM, and I'm assuming an NNN000110 will learn the new "characteristics" of the engine.

Failing that, a trip to see Mark at KMaps will be on the cards ;)

Thanks Brian, knew you'd be along with a sensible way forward :D

You've got me a bit confused by

I get the clearing adaptation bit, not sure on the next bit about the ECM? Probably just me being thick, it's been a long day!

Brian’s probably more tired than me, so I’ll try… if the ECM on this model is anything like that on my old 325i, it “learns” your driving style, plus I guess maybe the characteristics of your various sensors etc.

Think he means you’ll probably need to reset it so that it can learn its new environment from scratch. I used to have to do that when I wasted my time chipping my old machine. I *THINK* all you have to do is disconnect the battery for a few minutes… then it may run really rough for a while as it picks up on things, then hopefully be OK…

I've tried a battery reset which didn't work, think it needs a T4.

Completely get the resetting adaptations, just wondering if Brian meant there was more to be done.

Yes the ECM adaptations need to be reset, I don't know if you can do that with PScan

Don't think you can, or at least I haven't found the button for it...

Worst case, there's a T4 round the corner from work so no drama to get it done there.
