Tow ball fitting
 

Hi.
Someone must have an answer to this one.
Is the Rover 75 Saloon tow bar, suitable for an MGZT Saloon.
What sort of price am I looking at for one with full electrics, twin socket.

A tow bar can be fitted DIY on our cars. These people I think still do tow bars for our cars

Cable, socket and two relays will be extra.

I think if you want to be flash and monitor the trailer lights you need a BMW towing relay part number 61.35-8 369 019 and a wire from mmmm not sure, fuse box to light switch module I think.
I am not sure if the version of instrument cluster makes a difference, hopefully someone else can advise.

Further to the other part of the question. Is the Rover 75 one the same as an MGZT one. Anker E2050 is the specific one. I don't see there being any difference as the actual cars are just variants of each other.

Pickup points on the body shells are identical I believe.

Got a 13pin universal kit from Towsure, looks fairly straightforward with x2 relays and a pile of scotchlocks.
Wish me luck.

I’d ditch the scotchlocks and get a soldering iron out if you can 🙄
Mine had been done with scotchloks before my ownership and caused endless “light bulb” errrors. A slight movement of some/any of the wires would set off the fault signal intermittently. In fact, where space was limited, I just used old electrical block connectors, and taped them up after making the joint.

few things, if towing a trailer with electronic stability control you need i think to follow the diagram. If not then i am a bit sceptical about pin 9 being permanent live. I once left the caravan connected to the car overnight and had a flat battery on the car the next day. Could be coincidence but one of my cars is ignition live whilst the other, the one that had the flat battery is permanent live.

If you are worried about pin 9 being live all the time then put it on a ignition switched system either by a relay or by wiring it separate from the relay box please remember the thickness of the conductor on some of your aux wiring lines is meant to be much heavier than the conductors supplied in many 13 core cables ie pin 3, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 all should have 2.5mm squared conductors whilst the rest are all 1.5mm Squared conductors.
Many suppliers supply caravan multi core cable that is only 0.5mm Squared.
Please make sure the wires are heavy enough wire is measured in cross sectional area of the conductor. I have seen the damage that overheating wires can do. Many cable meltdowns can be avoided with the fitting of a quality towing relay pack. remember to make sure you always have a good earth. ( line return ) as one earth wire: supplies many switched live feeds.

Had a glance at the link you are using, Pin 12 is meant to be the earth ( line return ) for pins 9 to 13 not unused as quoted in the link. It should be a separate earth to that of pin 3 don't be tempted just link the pins use a different 2.5mm2 wire to a body earth point.
