Insurance killed off dreams of getting back into a 75

I have been very interested in a very very nice 75 to use as a third car so before buying went looking for insurance asking for a classic quote. No chance now unless, with some companies its 1999 or older, and others not a hope unless older than 1995. Peter Best say 1995 on anything unless its an MG then they suggest any ZT can be covered by a classic policy. My quote for a 2002 V6 2.5 Connie £1800.00. They said because its parked initially on the drive until I get a garage sorted and a Bradford post code. This is with no NCB on a normal car policy.

Adrian Flux the same, cannot cover it as a classic but with a mirrored full NCB off my Volvo £634.00. My ZTT insured with them two years ago was £330.00 as my main car. In comparison my Volvo V50 comes in at £317.00 with full NCB.

I know that I could get a much lower quote if I was looking to use it as my main car and the only answer would be to sell the Volvo and use the Rover as my first car but I don't want to do this, the Rover is just too nice.

The classic rules seem to vary from make to make, I’ve had my 2001 Saab 93 on a classic 2nd vehicle policy since it was about 10 years old.

My V8 & Tf are both insured on a classic policy through Peter Best - i am a member of the Mg car club which helps. Due to the terrible BD postcode it is a little dearer but not too bad - £190 for the Tf & £250 for the Zt, both based on 5000 miles per year. I am sure i used to have the 75 launch car insured with them too.

Steve.

Worth giving Aviva a go for your cars, asking for mirrored no claims discount and limited mileage on the Rover, I was very impressed with their premiums. My daily driver with 19 years no claim bonus plus the 2x 2.5's came to £550.

Insurance for my daily 75 was cheaper parked on the drive than it was garaged.🤔
Hard to get your head around!

I expect classic insurance is no different to ordinary car insurance in that different insurers will want to insure different risk profiles in different areas and on different types of cars. In some cases, not at all.

Mine is just shy of £1000, at mid 30's I would expect it to be a bit lower

Robbery without the violence I am afraid. They could not care less.

I’m with peter best on a 3k policy. I do have a garage but here’s the thing. First time I called I spoke to some bloke who said 1999 was the cut off. Later that day I rang back to double check. Spoke to a very helpful lady who told me that she thought the car could be insured with them as rovers are given an exception poat year 2000. She quoted about £300. But then helpfully said i could get it down to £240 inc breakdown cover if I was a membwe of the rover sports register (or other paid-up rover club).

So perhaps try phoning back. You may get someone more helpful who is a more knowledgable.

Keith michaels insurance are also good in my opinion

hi rob, don't give up until you have contacted Pete best classic insurance, talk to Stephen best, and quote the HISCOX scheme,i insured my 2003 C.D.T.I 2.0 ZT on the first of feb, for £185,fully comp, but their is a few restrictions, including, giving up your N.C.B.restricted milage of 1500 miles a year and being a member of a MG Rover club, giving your membership details, it works for me,as it is my second car, but that obviously wouldn't suit everyone, hope that helps, regards Ian.
