Mine has just ticked over to 101.000 miles, so just about run in now. Don’t think it will ever get to the moon while I have it in my possession.

P-Nut 6th October 2018 19:48

My ZT 190 is at 181k and counting, although I think at this stage it's like triggers broom, think it'll need a 3rd engine by the time I get to the moon.

And perhaps a special badge for the low milers (below 50k maybe?) - We can call it the 'End of the Street and No further' club :getmecoat: :D:D

That was 4 years ago.

Situations change - mileage now languishing in the doldrums of 191k only 3k in the past year. Trouble is I now live less than 2 miles from work...

Tinworm in both sills now as well, I don't know how much longer it'll be viable to run....

Are the rovers longer lasting than the MG's:shrug:

Simple, there were around 75,000 Diesel 75s and only about 8,000 ZT(-T)s, out of 22 Diesels, 3 of them are MG, this about fits with production figures.

Mine has just passed halfway to the moon, and at current rate, would take another 7 years to get there, so doubt if it ever will. But these results make me reasonably confident that I could be driving it into my dotage, reinforcing its pipe and slippers image, (barring a diesel ban). And right now, rather pleased I bought it. Am I tempting providence?

Mike Noc 1st November 2018 22:51

Well I've got an old one of these out the back, and if there is a diesel ban I'm converting mine to electric. :drool4:

I'll never get that sticker ... don't think I've ever done more than 10,000 miles in a year, spend as much time as possible on the bike in the good weather so the mileage will always be divided by two vehicles.

I recently hit the magic 500000 kilometers.
Still my daily drive and still in excellent shape.
As of today mileage is a shade under 312000.

JoCoLo 22nd May 2019 17:47

Sadly my 75 has expired at 251,000 miles, it was an 03 plate Connie. It was involved in an accident a few years ago, hit by a MX5 while I was waiting at a junction. It was written off but I used the settlement to repair it.

Although the repair looked fine underneath the water was getting into the sills where I could not see it. It failed the MOT on rust and when it was jacked it up in that place the sill gave way and the jack went through the sill.

A very sad end, and I felt awful scrapping it.

My 2002 Rover 75 Tourer after 1 year off in the garage

Just returned My Rover 75 tourer back to the road, had it in my garage for 1 year exactly ( a rest) shes on 311000 miles.

still on the same pumps, turbo, and fuel injectors, best car i have ever owned, went for a mot, full big service re taxed and shes rocking and rolling, owned it from brand new 17 years.

amazing car, and still a good turn of speed, when pushed, CDT model. excellent car in copperleaf red, with all the lovely chrome still looks fantastic now.:}

day one back on the road after one doing nothing knocked over 140 miles just like that! no problem, no noise etc, Before i gave her a breather, i had it T40 rust proofed, and if anything, there was not one creak on that car when it went back on the highways of England!, it's silent all door locks and doors, and windows silky smooth. could not believe how well shes performed for 1 year not doing much.

Comfortably Numb 9th July 2019 09:28

That's a tale to warm the spirit of any 75 owner. As long as they can be kept going for less than the depreciation on a newer car, you might as well keep driving and enjoying it. And at that mileage, it's a credit to you and the marque.

My ZTT has fallen behind in the last stretch to the magic number - I've been using the E46 for a lot of the 'grunt' work while working on the ZTT.

The trusty E46 is on the way back at 283,000 miles - I know we don't really 'do' BMWs here, but it feels just like a ZT to drive.
Bit more 'ooomph' than the ZTT though, someone glued another 2 cylinders to the CDT engine!

i wonder what mileages these diesels do before even the very best looked after ones are kaput!!!

if you think there are just 10 in the all time list above 300,000 miles looks like not many get past that mileage.

and most of those except one is not above 320,000 miles. however that does not mean they wont, may be just expense to use reward is NOT viable, i guess

TRIKEY I THINK YOU ARE RIGHT!

Same here i fired mine up after one year break and like yours sounded fantastic! M47 engines with Rover turbo's NOT the BMW swurl value turbos are the best combination

ROVER do not get the recognition for their Turbo improvements which was far superior to the German BMW ones which break down every few thousand miles. My Rover Turbo is the factory fitted MG Rover one , still has kick 312000 miles later what engineering from the Birmingham Boys!!

The one I took to Holland has done 157000 or there abouts.

Any way besides the insults how are you keeping, unwell I trust. LOL!!

Rev.

Very unwell thanks. Just thinking about how I can make enough money to last to the end of the year. Can not wait to pick up the massive bonus of 25 pence extra on my crotchety old age pension when I reach the ripe old age of 80 in December. 25 pence will make all the difference to how long I can have the heating on. I don’t think I will ever make starship enterprise mileage on my two. I think all my mileage was done as a transport driver. Sat down and worked it out once, and it was well over 1,000,000 miles. Wish I had a £ for everyone of those. Ahh well, you can’t have everything.

FLYING BANANA 31st July 2020 21:03

Still going to get my moon sticker for Banana, currently about to trip over onto 210,000. But this lockdown has meant we have hardly gone anywhere this year. Hopefully next year we will restart our mini tour.

rover 75 tourer Olde Faithful

Olde faithful just got back from another monster trip went down to Eastbourne/Hastings/Brighton/ Battle on a road trip just polished off another 600 road trip in miles.. fully loaded...no problem we went down in three cars One rover 75 tourer ( olde faithful) and a MG3 and a Morris Ital 1.3 saloon we lost the Ital half way through the holiday ( a gasket went) first time that car has ever broke down. that went back to the Midlands on a low loader so the 9 of us had to make do with the remaining two cars.... R75/MG3 and the Rover pulled the five adults and all the luggage around in ,to the South Downs around Beachy head cliffs fully freighted......no problem heading for nearly 330000 miles... still does not need any oil...... never bought a single can in nearly 19 years amazing.... what a car, it seems to be getting better on fuel year in year out..... £43 quid and she will do close to 370 miles plus on miles fully loaded. excellent!!

That’s bloomin good going Steve!!!

bl52krz 1st November 2020 20:47

Another 65,000 km and that equates to 620,000 miles. That really is some going. But they do say if you keep the engine moving, therefor warm/ hot, like taxis, there is less engine wear.

wixyw 5th November 2020 10:09

It's interesting that most of these are diesels, one V6, but no K series petrols !
I wonder why, and what sort of milages are being reached by the K series powered 75s ?

My MG ZT 1.8t is on 210,300 miles. Original clutch and turbo. And still pulls like a train.

Hi all,

Forgot all about this thread on here...

My 2003 Diesel Tourer is now on 246,299 miles, and despite how many 75's we have its the one that is used the most.... does everything and goes everywhere... love it to bits..

bought in 2012 at 114,000miles, serviced every 6 months, and is still on its 2nd clutch that I fitted in 2013.

and its service day today... :)

FLYING BANANA 23rd June 2021 09:27

We are slowly getting there. Banana is currently on 211,800,

Briodyjl01 23rd June 2021 10:33

My tourer is closing in on the big 250,000. She is less than 150 miles off it.

Mike Noc 23rd June 2021 11:31

I've driven my car from new and being a manual diesel it averages over 50miles to the gallon with a fair bit of motorway driving. So over the last 20 years 414000 miles at 50 to the gallon is 8280 gallons. If I had a petrol engine and used your figures then 414000 at 35 to the gallon is 11829 gallons, an increase of 3549 gallons.

Taking a rough average price of fuel over the last 20 years as £1.10 a litre, so at £5.00 a gallon that is a saving of £17,745.00 just for driving a stone crusher.

Can we please have a brief outline of what you've had to replace during that staggering mileage? Is anything left OEM? Presume it's a diesel auto?

Mike Noc 17th September 2022 22:58

If you are asking about my car then the engine has never been apart. The injectors, HP pump and crank pulley are all original as are the cam chains. I've replaced the cam sensor, MAF, alternator brushes, engine mounts, starter motor solenoid and it is on its third water pump (the first one lasting just shy of 300k miles).
It's a manual so the gearbox hasn't been apart either but it has had the usual clutch hydraulic failures and I did replace the DMF with a good used one.
Over the twenty two years I have had it (from new, so apart from the 186 delivery miles I've driven just about all of the rest) most of the suspension parts have been replaced, along with a couple of exhaust back boxes.
