Scam alert

My son in law has just lost 4.5k

He was looking for a motor home as overseas holidays are impossible at the moment. Problem is he fell for a charmer. EBay has told him the sellers account has been hacked, PayPal is not interested and the Police are lukewarm about it.

Action Fraud have tried to be helpful.

The EBay account is brogan1978robert and the motor home was a Suntour 300. He calls himself Keith Miller from Wales but he suddenly moved to Inverness on Monday!!

The real Keith Miller lives in Warrington.

Unfortunately he fell for the offer of free delivery with a 5 days option to return the motor home if not happy with it. Savings have gone. Transfer was to a bank account rather than through a known platform. Silly boy.

he must be gutted.
I have seen instances where people have used social media to track scammers, I don't know how they have done it.

I hope your son in law can get most if not all the money.

A feedback score of 42 and 34 followers of that eBay account........sounds like there is a queue of angry people :(

Thanks. I’ve passed on the details. I’ll see how he gets on in a few days.

Never use Bank Transfer. To many scams involving this kind of transaction. The amount of thieves on the web is growing all the time, and most agencies could not give a damn about helping you to get it back.

I have sympathy with your son in law’s loss but it would appear he bought a product he had not seem from a man he had never met and agreed to transfer the money outside of eBay before the product was delivered. Who would have thought anything could go wrong?

His only defence was the man was charming - but this is surely true of all successful conmen?
