RHD to LHD Conversion
 

Oh yeah, we did it ! We don`t have any monogram cars in Romania so a good friend decided we need one. He purchased a ZT CDTI Automatic in Monogram Typhoon and we converted the car to LHD. Everything went smooth, car works fine except ehm , nothing works :icon_redface: . Engine running fine, gearbox fine, starts with no issues but, T4 cannot connect to it , only to IPK . Windows switch sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, same for every light outside the car , central locking and so on. Any ideas? A day after tomorrow we want to replace the entire wiring loom, we obtained a LHD ZT CDTI Automatic loom, also we have almost no clue where to start from.

Did you cut and join wires when converting? If so id look there first.

Changing the whole loom is a very big job, full interior out, carpets dashboard - everything! The loom is a one piece affair and needs to be removed carefully to avoid breaking and wires or clips.

It is doable, but you must be very careful.

Agreed 100%, I have never replaced a loom on one of these but I did on a Golf a couple of years ago due to a fire and no insurance on a customers newish car. The new loom was a nightmare to get into place and I can see why they are warmed up in the factory to make them supple, in the factory they can do it in a few mins, it took me over a week just to get the loom in and working. I can see why cars are usually written off when the wiring gets damaged. I vowed never to do one again.

Check all your earth points and block connectors, some block connectors can look correct but a good push and even a tie wrap can often help.

We unmounted the interior, found a lot of wires cut, most of them are from the main harness and we are replacing the entire car's harness. We like a challenge. Let the game begin 😁https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6b77f48c1b.jpg

I would rather drive mine into the sea than replace the entire main loom.

You must have really wanted a monogram.

There was a nice one for sale in DE, in a nice blue colour, was tempted myself.

Well, to be honest, it is not an impossible task but for sure not an easy one. The part of the harness that goes to the engine is really easy to remove, with fenders unmounted it's a 45 mins job. The real pain was that the harness is a one piece deal for the entire cabin; a plug on lower A pillars would have saved half a day or more as you have to remove every single wire from the cabin, including rear seatbelts, boot lid light, rear sunshade, rear lights etc. If I would do it again, would cut all the wires from the lower A pillar, buy a pair of universal plugs and attach those for easy removal. At this point, we managed to put the LHD loom inside the cabin , sort the mess between the wires that need to go on the driver's side and passenger side and we finally managed to plug everything to the rear of the car back. First days in the new year, we will sort out the plugs under the bonnet, mount everything back and then finish with the dashboard loom. We will record the first attempt to put the ignition ON and start the engine; camera man will have a fire extinguisher :icon_redface:
