Operating temperature
Until I replaced the radiator my car ran at 9 o'clock on the gauge which i assume is 90 degrees, since replacing it it seldom gets above half past seven. Do I need be concerned?

Temperature gauge is about as useful as a chocolate teapot it will read normal anywhere from around 75° - 115° On a diesel, correct operating temperature should be 88° this can be checked using OBD diagnostics mode 19 section 7, If it’s not reaching the 9 o’clock position then it’s not running at the correct operating temperature it’s running cool, not great for fuel economy etc

Run the obd for the correct temperature https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=55585
19 & 7 are the relevant numbers. Sounds like the thermostat may be faulty:shrug: |
The new radiator exacerbating an old problem.
Time for an in-line stat I'd suggest. TC |

The nine o' clock temperature gauge position doesn't mean 90 degrees, it means anywhere between 75 and 115 degrees. Use the instrument pack diagnostics as suzublu recommends to discover the actual temperature. Simon |

Thanks everyone, looks like i need a new thermostat! The in-line route looks the way to go, does anyone know how much they are/where i can get one?

You need a Renault 5 thermostat rated 88°C or better 89°C Best brands to get are Wahler, FirstLine or Gates. They're watertight which is important. eBay gives a good chance of getting one of the above for around a tenner. TC |
