Mystery No7 (or is it 8)

Does anyone recognise this thing (arrowed)?

https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...b864b103a3.jpg

It's a small metal rod, about 6-8" long, with a short bend at one end and a loop for a screw/bolt at the other. The bend end goes into a hole in something and the screw/bolt stops it falling out again. The rod actually looks more like this (sort of :D).

The reason I'm asking is I remember taking it off the car (but I can't remember where from) and now I can't find it. So I don't know what it's called, I don't know what it does, I don't know where it came from and I don't know where it is now.

The 1st pic above is from the diagram on this page but the photo that goes with #8 is the wrong photo - that's actually the cable bracket that bolts to the gearbox/diff (i.e. #8 on this page).

Are you confused yet?

So the question is: what the heck is rod No7 (or is it 8)? And what have I done with it? :shrug:

PS. It's painted black (iirc) and it's from somewhere on the front half of the car. :}

Hi Blink, I will PM you Terry Shaw's details (TS Autos) as he knows the answer.

All the best, Nicholas/Zircon

It bolts to the subframe above the steering rack, and the gearchange cables sit on top of it.

I covered mine in a split rubber tube, as it was evident the cables were chafing.

White arrows show the rod. Green arrow - short bend in its hole. Red arrow - loop end secured by screw.

I'll give Terry a ring but my guess now is it's just a separator/spacer device to stop the rollbar rubbing against the gear change cables.

Still, at least I haven't thrown it away by accident. :D

NB. I think the descriptions of 7 and 8 on GRID999752 are both wrong.

Edit:

Here's the thing off the car. A bit longer than I said earlier - it's just under 9 inches. The chunky screw is a Torx T50 btw.

At least my sketch is more accurate than MGR's :D
