Boot lock

The boot lock on my Mark I 2.0 Connoisseur can be opened either from outside, using the key or from inside, by pressing a button. The lock itself is working fine, as is the button, but there is a problem with the key-operated mechanism. It still works, but the key now has to be turned much further round (almost 180 degrees) to open the boot and no longer springs back.

I assume there must be a spring inside the barrel of the lock mechanism which makes the key spring back to the vertical, and I assume that spring must have broken.

My question is, is it easy to replace and can anyone tell me how to do it? What do I need to buy? I don't want to change the whole unit because that would mean having a different key for the boot.

To remove the lock, unhook the rod and undo the two screws from inside the boot lid.
Rotate the lock and withdraw it, and unplug the multiplug.

Remove the circlip and remove the end plate. Turn the end plate upside down and the circular spring is there.

Best bet is to get a replacement from the scrapyard and swap bits over, then you get to keep your key.

It's very simple once you see it in front of you :)

I had mine in bits for the umpteenth time yesterday, there's a small casting inside which breaks up and causes the symptoms you describe.

Thanks for the quick reply. I knew someone on here would have an answer. All I need to do now is find a scrap-yard with a suitable donor vehicle.

There is a micro switch on the lock which when pressed works like the footwell switch this will be what is opening your boot so it'll be a broken piece in the end of the barrel that is broken

It's probably the small casting I mentioned, it's quite a delicate part which cracks and breaks up. I went through 4 replacement locks before I found one with this bit intact..

In the picture below, the part with the red bit on is what I called the "end plate" just underneath it is the spring, but as Dissy days, it's probably the small metal cast "ring" that's broken up. Not difficult to replace.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Much appreciated, as always.
