Spare parts

Hello,

From time to time I have had the pleasure of stumbling across a fellow enthusiast. This week I sought out an alternator for the Raptor. Looking through the listings on the bay of e, I saw a second hand alternator that looked like new. I ordered it and on arrival it was just like the picture.
I saw the name of the chap who sold it was John, and I theorised that it might be MGJohn as whoever it is clearly has a great love of the cars.
I was wrong about who it was (sorry MGJohn!), however I received a phone call from John this afternoon and had a lovely chat with him.
He owns several Rover/MGs and describes each one he dismantles as a loss. He is passionate about the cars and meticulous in the removal and presentation of the parts. I have mentioned the club to him, particularly as our cars get older we need people who understand the vehicles and value them as we do.
I have no wish to transgress club rules, and my humblest apologies if I have done so, but I want to recommend John to you. Please have a look at his stuff. Thank you.

Just reading this post I thought I knew who you were talking about and I was right, same eBay username, I have had good service from him in the past.

Whilst I don't like seeing cars being broken it is economics sadly, and one dead car can help many more be repaired economically. Can't realistically save them all (although I wish we could!).

I'm so glad you know John. He got quite emotional talking about dismantling Rovers and was emphatic that, despite the loss, the parts could be upcycled to help other examples remain roadworthy. He's very proud of his ZT, in a fetching dark green with white alloys! :hurray:

While I admire his dedication to the mark and your recommendation, I don’t like the use of a blast media on the engine components which creeps into all nueks and crannies and is a devil to remove. Perhaps just done for a photo shoot in the eBay adverts to look good a bit bit more presentable. Unless it was a soda blaster ? Me I like my used engine parts with the original gunge showing which can tell a story.

Thanks for the link. Ordered this morning, and spoke to him on the phone.

A good point. It came out in conversation that blast media is just one part of his process. He told me about the breather holes in the cam covers that get gunked up. He takes a great deal of care to ensure that every part of the component is spotless.
From our conversation, and given that he has rebuilt engines (and his ZT) I think he's reliable.
