Tyre Protector front strut spring guard
 

What approach do people use to fit the standard guard that goes on the front strut to stop a snapped coil spring going into the tyre.

There are two screws of different sizes. Which goes where? As the dampers are rusted painted and waxoyled I cannot tell which is the small hole and which the big. and I will have to kind of drill out a hole.

Also some say the screws are not good enough and bolts are needed?

In case people do not realise it seems none of these guards were factory fitted. And we all need to check if our cars have them

Thanks. The problem is the holes have closed up with rust and waxoyl. I can't see holes or which hole is which.

If I guess I could end up struggling with a drill and widening the small hold for the big screw. And putting the small screw in the big hole held by rust and waxoyl.

When I fitted them, I put the protector "in place" and pushed a screwdriver through the holes to clear the holes on the spring itself. Then just feel out both holes with the big screw, it's pretty easy to feel which one it does not fit in.

The smaller diameter screw (M6) goes in the outer hole. The larger (M7) goes in the inner hole.
