2001 2.5 KV6 conn compressor bearing "screaming"its head off!!
Hi Folks
Does anyone know the bearing make & number(or size) for the above, mine is whining badly. It will save me a lot less time off the road,(as its an every day car)if I can source one before I pull the compressor. Many Thanks Dan Gardner |
Are you certain that it's the compressor Dan and not the tensioner and/or idler pulleys? How many miles have they covered?

Compressor bearing

I have fitted new pulleys and a new belt, and it only happens when the A/C is running,it would save me a lot of time off the road if I could buy a bearing and just fit it. Best Wishes Dan |
Hi Dan,
As you probably know, a squealing noise results when the compressor places its additional load on the engine and the belt tension isn't correct. This can be caused by a single cut in the rubber or by a faulty tensioner. As you have replaced both of these, we should be able to rule that out which leaves the compressor. There are special service tools to hold the pulley to enable you to remove the securing nut. If you can improvise then please let me know how you did it! :D It might be a better bet to find a business which repairs and reconditions compressors to do the bearing replacement for you. In the long run, that's going to be quicker than DIY (unless you've done this sort of thing before). Simon |
Some time ago another member on here kindly advised me that this was the bearing for the kv6 , with the right numbers.....
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Compresso...72.m2749.l2649 He was about to try a bearing replacement , by removing the pulley and fitting the new bearing to it . Unfortunately I have had no further contact since then so I don't know how it went , or even if the bearing was right  However , for £12 it must be worth a go ? I temporarily solved my noise with a regas but I might end up changing the bearing yet :} |
