Where do we get exhaust parts from now.
 

I have just phone Kwik Fit and Rimmer bros for a back box and section for my Rover 75 T estate 2003.....Only to be told these parts are not available any more?? Where do I go now for these parts...I live in Middlesex.

Are there companies around that specialise in Rover exhaust

I have a small blow on the exhaust would it fail the MOT on this...

Rather than replacing the part could I get it welded.to seal the hole.

Depends where the hole is and how rusty the box is. If its near one of the seams welding it may not work, sometimes it just blows away the rusty metal making a bigger hole. I had trouble finding a replacement rear box for my ZT in the end I went to a performance exhaust makers and had a stainless steel back box made. It is not a boy racer booming box, only slightly louder than a standard one. I had the exhaust on my CDT replaced from the flexible section back last month, at a cost of £245 fitted. This was the "correct" part for the car rather than an aftermarket stainless one, although that is the usual business the fitter specialises in. I'm in NI so there's no point in giving you his details, but if you're stuck I can ask him which supplier he used. Let me know if you want me to.

That fitter had also said that he could do me a stainless steel Powerflow exhaust to be as loud or as quiet as I wanted, but IIRC it would have been an extra £80-£100 or so and with the other car-related outgoings I had at the time, it just wasn't something I could consider. However a stainless aftermarket exhaust doesn't have to sound any different from OEM.

Had a full system fitted 2 years ago to my 1.8T. Even the Exhaust Centre in Cheltenham got it wrong and ordered one for 1.8 NASP. By way of a gesture for making me wait 3 days to get the car back, instead of £299 they charged me £160. Will go to them again but I’m sure one day they will not find one anymore?

Quite strange to me that for such common cars (relative to other marques) and not yet 20 years old that exhausts are such a problem.

Supermarket car parks are full during the day of 20-30 year old Nissans, Hondas, Fords etc. driven by the over 70's and all seem to be able to keep their cars on the road yet a 'modern' car like ours has to resort to expensive custom built exhausts or dodgy 3rd party parts that don't fit.

The back box on my previous cdt went, a couple of years ago local tyre fitters managed to get one but the same money as stainless steel box ( not fitted)
They ordered it in before speaking to me otherwise I would have bought one for them to fit

I have come across places that make exhausts that aren't as expensive as you may think. One was in Telford but the name eludes me now and it's miles from you. You don't have to have a loud ( and usually pointless) one.

The problem with rust in exhausts, especially petrol, is that they rust and collapse internally. Tooo much back pressure is not good really.

Try Motor Inn in Ruislip. Cheaper than Kwik Fit and they will do a better job.
