Mr Loophole

Anybody read this in the Mail yesterday? among other things he says that those of us who will be driving in the 6 months of the MOT holiday need to tell our insurance companies .... & they may want to charge an additional premium, which they almost certainly will. Mine was due 8 April, I had it booked for 1st April but the garage is now closed

I am sure other legal opinion will contradict a lot of this.

And in answer to that, the insurance will say,’ it is another risk they will be taking’. Anything to get more money out of you again. The answer to that is:- people are only doing essential travelling, and practically no one is going to work. So how do you equate that Mr insurance?

Will I get a refund due to my mileage being less during lockdown? Yeah, right!:getmecoat:

My nephews recently open a repair workshop specializing in pre-MOT work, when the 6 month announcement happen within 2 days every customer who had booked some work to be done had cancelled - as the Government said it was not necessary.

Talking with them yesterday, they said that some of it was quite serious work - such as worn brakes, knocking ball joints and shot suspension struts.

Over here in Ireland...….

We have a three month holiday on our NCT....we have had an issue here as well as the lifts in the Test center's where found to have cracks, so they could only do half of the test's....

Wife Renault Kadjar was due its Test in February….still waiting to get the final checks completed.....

Now the Test Centers are closed.....

On a different note.....

In December I had a crash in my 2011 Passat, moved my insurance over to my 75, and was told it was an extra 100 euros to move the insurance across...

When I asked why, was told it was because it was older (2004) and more likely to be in an accident.

I asked how as the 2011 one was just in an accident (other persons fault)..

It might be useful to check your car's MoT has been updated to include the 6 month exemption. To do this use the link below:

https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

If your car is not included you can email [email protected], giving your registration and MoT expiry date

One point that may be of interest; If you decide to put your car on SORN and want to cancel your policy, I have seen some insurers such as AXA waive any cancellation fee.

The system will add the extra mot just before it expires so may not show as having the extension until almost its due date ;)

Or simply get it tested, there will be testing stations open I'm sure ;)

Some of what Mr Loophole states to be "fact", appears to be complete fabrication with scaremongering in mind.

Be sensible if you need to use your car, and do so responsibly in the current circumstances.

The Association of British Insurers comment on the MOT extension https://www.abi.org.uk/news/news-articles/motextension/

Check your policy to confirm, but it is not usually a requirement to have a valid MOT (extended or not). It is however a requirement that your vehicle is roadworthy.
