Garage recommendation near Inverness or anywhere in Scotland.

Well seems like the long steep hills around Applecross has taken a toll on Redfive, as half way through today the crank pulley has started knocking/rattling! This is now a right nightmare as we're currently halfway through our Scotland trip. Does anyone know of any good garages around Scotland that could replace it, I could get a corteco pulley sent to the garage. We're heading up north to Thurso tomorrow but will be heading down to Inverness on Monday. So if anyone knows of any reliable preferably MG Rover specialist garages around the Inverness they recommend? Cheers.

Only MG specialists I know of is the obvious one, Dreadnaught in Callender but that's a long way south of Inverness. Try Gary (Lovel), he lives north of Aberdeen and might know somewhere nearer the Inverness area.

Hello Rick,
I have a spare pulley for a CDTI, I would recommend Great North Road, Muir of Ord, IV6 7XR, 01463 217950. I will send you a pm.

PM sent. I live 15 miles from Inverness.

Those roads around Applecross are definitely a challenge. Sorry to hear about the issues:eek:. Hopefully you got to experience some great vantage points.
Rooting for you both.

Sorry to hear about your situation Rick although I would hope that any of the local garages in the area would be competent at changing the pulley

Yes thought of them but they're 180 miles in the wrong direction from where we are sadly.

Hi Ray,

Really appreciate it mate thank you for your message. I have however been contacted by a chap just outside Elgin who is sorting it for me tomorrow. If he hadn't contacted me I would have been taking up your offer. Thank you

Thank you mate, the roads were absolutely amazing. We're following the north coast 500 route which starts pretty much once you pass isle of skye which is where we started this morning. That route takes you through Applecross. I never imagined we had roads like that in the UK. Amazing.

The crank pulley can be a little tricky to do in terms of getting the belt back on so wouldn't want to use any old garage who'd take a lot longer and then charge a silly amount. There was one case recently where a owner had the pulley fail, took it to a local garage and they wanted to remove the whole engine to replace it!

+ a lot of places here are closed over the weekend and don't open until Monday, and would have to order the part in which could take days.

Update

I've been contacted by a chap near Elgin who has a spared used crank pulley he's going to fit for me tomorrow lunchtime to get us going again. Absolute saviour!

Will update on here when it's done and back on route again :)

Thanks all for your replies. Much appreciated.
