Erwins cope with sump plug?

Think the Terminator must have tighten and rounded the sump plug on my daughter's KV6. Just about tried everything in my toolbox including trying to weld a larger nut over the bolt head: welds didn't hold. Heard many good things about Erwins but before I splash out on a set https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IRWIN-394...YAAOSwiTRc39Zp does anyone think they won't do the job?

Regards

Hi Mike.
They will do the job I have no doubt please let us know, so will these, remember you need 15mm check the size on the Irwins

Thanks Steve, your link was cheaper. Funny you should say 15mm as the one giving me grief has/had a 13mm head, might have been changed at some time for a locally available one.

Keep well

I had the same problem - got it off very easily. They're great bits of kit.

Hi Mike.
Yes I have always found them to be 15mm and always change the washer if not both plug & washer.

Run the engine up to temp too, the warm oil will help.

You are quite right (as usual) just checked the new one (with washer) from DMGRS and it is 15mm. Guessing the locally sourced (?) 13mm wasn't up to the job, probably ok for one or two oil changes but then ... Sometimes I really appreciate the earlier Rovers - the SD1 sump plug is probably 22mm or thereabouts. Now just have to be patient and wait for your linked set to arrive.

Keep well,

Mike

I wouldn't get that particular set. It's only a 3/8" drive, A 1/2" (or bigger) drive is needed.

Thanks for the input - too late I'm afraid as already ordered from Arctic's link - I'll just blame Steve if I break my 3/8 ratchet :} - but I've got a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter which I'm more willing to sacrifice, will probably use that initially.

Mike you can do what I tend to do with the 3/8 size socket, I use the end in a socket which can either be 1/2" or 3/4" if access allows it ;)

Therefore fit the tool into the best socket & size the job will allow
