Is this an early 75 V8?
Just looking on 'the bay' and spotted this odd looking V8.
It appears to have the MK1 rear bumper and old style steering wheel; to name a few - not mentioning the dodgy side photo of a mk1 front end! then the front end has remarkbaly changed in the other pic. Hmm, it certainly seems a bit dodgy, doesn't it?
It has the quad exhaust of the V8 but this could be added later - I think Alex did this with his car, judging from some of the pics on .org. The interior is also a bit odd, Ash console/glovebox trim with the old style seats was not available as far as I know, could it be a monogram option? The gear selector doesn't look like the version the 75 V8 came with, so it could be an earlier prototype version. There is a V8 badge on the dash below the clock. But the bumpers are the oddest bit. Maybe it was a prototype and was built with the earlier bumpers, and then the seller changed the front end to make it look like a typical 75 V8. Maybe he thought people would not believe it was a genuine V8 without a Premium grille. It's possible to do this, see again Alex's car. But posting pics of two different front ends when trying to sell what is presumably one car......strange!! |
It is a proper V8 not entirely sure of it's history though Brown and Gammons have had it listed on their site for a while, I forgot about it and I suppose I should have taken a look at it before I bought my Black one
I think they had it on sale a the MG event at Silverstone alongside the fiat Diesel powered 75 etc Definitely a MK1 rear bumper no doubt Tim or the Mathews brothers will be along shortly with full details I Will move this to the V8 forum later |

Anybody thought about bombing them with a few questions about its legitimacy ? Vin number, which front end does it now have,do you have matching bumpers ?

To me this looks like a Mg ZT V8 development car,

I think more probably it's a 75 V8 development car, based on a ZT 260. It has a ZT 260 bumper with heat shields but has the 75 V8 exhaust system and auto box. The gear gaiter is probably pre-production.
It was not long after this car was registered that MGR announced the launch of the 75 V8 at Geneva. IIRC the car was one of a batch of cars that B&G bought from MGR, including the (in)famous JTD diesel and a very nice LHD bi-fuel car. It has a few oddities but at the right price maybe not a bad car. My main concern would be having a Rover registered as an MG. Tom |
I think Rincewind has commented on this motor. It's a bitsa special and if the same he is of the opinion that it should have been destroyed, not let out for sale. In one way it's good that is wasn't but a potential buyer may be caught out with this one if they are not careful.
It'd be much better if a MK1 nose was stuck on it though, at least the bodywork would all match up. |
