FLYING BANANA 18th June 2020 09:01

Dame Vera Lyn.....

........... has passed away at 103. We’ll meet again. RIP a true legend.

Saga Lout 18th June 2020 09:04

Yes.

She was simply the best of this great country, she should be remembered with a statue.

Maybe a time for the banner to go dark.

That's sad news. What an innings? and what a legacy!

RIP Dame Vera you will never be forgotten.

RIP Dame Vera, I’m sure a flypast is in order.

There'll be a few tears shed about this sad news, another true to the heart Brit sadly no more with us.

RIP Dame Vera Lynn, gone but never to be forgotten.

How sad. The lady was a stalwart, a patriot who never had a bad word to say about anything. A statue is a must, her record will ensure it.

KWIL 18th June 2020 15:19

Statue, YES, that would solve the problem of the empty plinth in Trafalgar Square.

I have memories of my parents dancing to Vera Lynn songs through the 50s
and with the love shown toward her by the nation from WW2 right up until the present day a Battle of Britain flight flypast would be most fitting for this lady.

My dear old Mum passed away almost 4 years ago and she had a flypast at her funeral. By some amazing coincidence as we walked out of the crematorium at Norwich the red arrows passed overhead in perfect diamond formation, Mum was 102 when she died so at 103 Dame Vera must be worthy of an aerial tribute.

Watched the documentary on the television. She actually went to see the troops at garrison hill in Kohima, she was a brave lady. It said other entertainers wouldn't go as it wasn't a safe place. It showed a photo of an m3 tank, wonder if that's the one I saw wrecked on the slopes near Garrison Hill. I think there was only one there at the time.
