Battery Charger Recommendations

Guys

Well after 47 years sterling service my Bradex 4A charger has finally given up the ghost

So

What are your recommendations for a reliable alternative bearing in mind I've a 2.5 V6 auto

I use a CTEK MX5 5.0 battery conditioner . You can safely leave it connected for months if so desired and it won't "fry" your battery .

I have recently purchased the CTEK Time to go charger / conditioner which I now leave on my car while parked up. Below is a link to it should you wish to know more.

As the OP I use decades old charger but mine is an 8 amp charger and I prefer bigger types to get me going in an emergency.

I have yet to explore this sort of thing but some say they can be pocket size and can start big car

I use the Draper charger evaluated in the AutoExpress Test (link below) on both my classic cars with no issues and its good value when compared to the CTEK (which is good just expensive.!)

Still using my Davenset battery charger from when I bought it when I was 19 years old and had a Truimph Renown . The one with the Vangard engine. I am now 84 so I think it is fair to say I have had my monies worth out of it. Put it on the 2.5 Connie about every 2/3 weeks to keep it charged up. Washed the Connie 3 days ago, and started and ran the car for 40 minutes. Starts on the button first time every time. It is a 4 amp charger, and compensates as it charges up, down to 1 amp.

:D

I have a Davenset as well Dave, in a red metal case. It's about half the age of yours and a mixture of traditional transformer circuitry with constant voltage output and polarity protection and a couple of LEDs! It's a lovely thing.

I have the very same, and it is excellent, I also have a Lidl version, every bit as good, for a fraction of the cost. These modern 'conditioning' type are the ones to go for, as they do not stress the battery cells and thus shorten the life of the battery, they also diagnose the general health of the battery in the process, recondition the cells and test to ensure the battery can hold charge, etc etc., they are expensive!.

The CTeK type are excellent, buy the best you can afford and rest assured they are up to the job. Avoid fast charging types they will ruin a modern battery sooner or later.

Fitted the clamps to the battery terminals, so just plug the charger on when needed 👍 https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...220f072981.jpg
